Block Unknown Devices

Strobels

As a matter of security, I would like to block unknown devices (based on MAC address) from connecting to my network. This default deny stance would provide me with the granular control I want for my home network.  I don't believe there is a way to currently configure this.  How does this get added to the feature backlog for Google WiFi?  Thanks!

Totally agree!  This is standard on any other router.

Hey, Strobels.

Once a device has your network ID and password, it's pretty hard to keep it from connecting to your network. The best way to manage unwanted devices is to change up your password, and not use those devices to connect again. MAC address filtering is something that other users have mentioned as a feature they would like to see and we have provided that to our internal teams for consideration.

Hopefully that helps you out. If there's anything else you need, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi, all.
Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.
Thanks.

Is there a ticket number or some priority that you can point us to for MAC address filtering?  I have a son who has discovered that he can change his MAC address in order to get on the Google WiFi network and circumvent any time restrictions I have imposed. This is FRUSTRATING. He is hardwired into the Google WiFi so I can’t use a Guest Network and lock it down that way.., the only option that I have is to do MAC address whitelisting or remove his administrative permissions from his user account.

Hi, ColumbusCurler.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to do the MAC filtering in a way that would prevent your son from avoiding the restrictions. With him having access to the admin features, you'll have a hard time working around his access in a way that he won't be able to get around. I can suggest to our internal teams as a feature request to allow for more options in managing network access by device.

If there's any other way I can help, let me know. Thanks.
