Can I add a 3rd party wifi extender via Ethernet to my Google Nest Router for GN Cam-battery?

I have a Google Nest Camera battery outdoors I’ve mounted about 150 feet from my nest point which is inside (obviously). It has a very weak signal as expected. I’d like to add an outdoor wifi extender to help with this signal since I can’t put a point outside. Does anyone have advice with an extender that will work for this application if I use Ethernet cable from the router to the extender?  I want to be sure it will work with Google Home properly and seamlessly.  My research has uncovered

  • Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi are compatible with most “universal” range extenders, repeaters, travel routers, and devices that support:
    • Client mode
    • AP client mode
    • ProxySTA

ok so I’m asking for a compatible recommended option here?

I have no experience with outdoor Wi-Fi equipment, but would probably take a look at UniFi by Ubiquiti maybe?

Or get a Google Wifi or Nest Wifi router (with ethernet ports), place it as close as possible but indoors, using wired backhaul?

I don't work for Google.

In theory, any access point (which is what it is called when backhaul travels over ethernet cable) should work. But it can't be controlled through the Google Home app of course.

That is what I was afraid of. It has to be controlled through the Google Home app.  I appreciate the conversation. I’m not a networking/wifi expert.  As far as I know, without the Google Home app, this would make the Nest Cam Battery unusable?

The Nest Cam should be managable through the Google Home app, even though it connects through a non-Google/-Nest access point. But the access point itself will not.

Ok that makes total sense now - thank you olavrb!  Curious any access point you recommend to extend this distance comfortably?
