Can't change wifi channels

joetech

Hi in advance, MichaelP.  I bet you're tired of answering this question by now.  I have security cameras which are having issues.  I'm advised to check my wifi network for problems.  One suggestion is to check for crowded channels.  I understand that Google Wifi is supposed to be smart and choose channels that are not crowded, but mine are on 1, 6, and 11 and an analysis of other networks nearby shows most of them on 6 or 11.  So it's either locked into what was genuinely least crowded when I set it up long ago or it's not choosing uncrowded channels very well.

I get the whole "let's keep it simple" argument, but throw the setting in Advanced and give the people what we want.  People have been requesting a simple feature for years.

I already feel like this request is going to end up closed with the same "we can't do that" response the other threads have, but I'll settle for some way to force my Google Wifi nodes onto channels that aren't the most crowded.  Otherwise, I'll need to start over with hardware that suits my needs better.

Hello @joetech,

Thank you very much for posting in the Google community.

I know how important the internet is for you, and I would definitely feel the same way you do. Your thoughts are very important to us, and thank you for letting us know the situation.

To better assist you, we need to verify your connectivity in our system and get some information about your Google WiFi devices, but for your privacy, you need to fill out this form to get a call back from a WiFi team expert.

Regards,

Helio.

Well, I filled out the form and then decided to factory reset the Google Wifi network since I suspect that's what's coming next.  I had a horrible time trying to scan the bottom QR code on the first one.  Each time, it wants to latch on to about half or 1/3 of it (despite it being completely in frame and well lit and trying 20 times) and then fails and displays an option to enter the code manually, but that option goes away within about 1 second.  After several frustrating attempts, I got the "enter code" dialog to come up by clicking the option immediately.  But that also refreshed back to scanning the code unless I also tapped quickly to put focus in the code entry field.  Now, it's on a step where it's going to connect to a temporary network to get me set up, but it keeps saying it couldn't connect to the device.  I'm right next to it.

So now, I have work starting in 13 minutes and no Wifi for my wife or I to get online to work.  How do I get this working again?

Please note that the forum's rules prevent me from replying again within 60 minutes (figured this out last night).  I'd love a call to the number I put in the form last night.

I managed to get 2 of the 3 devices back on my Google Home, but the third will not scan the bar code or connect when I manually type in the code.  I'm back online and able to work, but after a factory reset and getting two back on the mesh, they're on channels 6 and 11.  So it looks like I still need to figure out if it's possible to fix this or not.

Hello  @joetech ,

I wanted to thank you for letting me know that you managed to connect two the devices and reading at your post you requested a phone call and I am wondering if you received your phone call back ?  Please let  me know if you still need assistance.

Thank you

Helio.
