Connecting Google nest to modem/router combo

Hi, I recently purchased a Google nest router and 2 points. The router is connected to my dad's modem/router combo I live right next door and my brother lives next to me and we each have a point. When I do the mesh test they all say great connection. Upload download speeds are great. The issue is lately our routee and points have been messing up and wifi has been dropping constantly and then takes forever to come back on. But, the pace router doesn't go off and the wifi connection doesn't drop at all. Its only the Google nest router having a problem.. We've had this setup for about 4 months and everything was great up til about a week ago. I've done some research and I've concluded that I need to put the original router I to bridge mode. So the problem is, my dad won't let me because his cable modem is connected to the modem/router combo and he says that if I put it in bridge mode, he won't be able to watch his cable anymore because he can't connect his cable modem to the Google nest router.. So my question is, if I put his modem/router into bridge mode, how would that work with his cable modem? I believe we have DSL if that helps figure this out. Any help would be great as I'm sick of my internet dropping constantly.  Thank you

Without seeing your actual setup, I think your father is correct. The tv box needs to get a MOCA signal from the router. If it does not get that signal the correct way the channel guide and premium channels will not work.

I have a similar question. Is there any conflict when plugging Nest Wifi into the existing combo modem/router and using both wifi networks? Do I need to disconnect the wifi settings on the combo modem/router? Thanks

Nest wifi makes its own subnet, so it will not "talk" to anything plugged into the ISP router.  If you have devices that are currently pluged into an ethernet port on the ISP box the Nest wifi will not see it. I would plug a switch into the lan port of the Nest, and mve my wired devices to that, and turn off the wifi on the ISP router.  As long as the ISP router is first in line, your cable boxes should still work.

Good input, kiltguy2112.

Also, mchase, if you're using a combo modem/router along with Nest WiFi, you can definitely run into some double NAT issues or other types of odd behavior. It's recommended that you only use the Nest WiFi for wireless networking and do as kiltguy2112 suggested for wired inputs.

Thanks.
