how do I delete devices?

The Google WIFI app let me delete devices; the Google Home app does not seem to.  I have 54 unused devices (left over from OVER TWO YEARS ago when a friend's dynamic IP address system assigned him a new device every time he logged into my network).  The are greyed out but they are still there.  I fear they will be there forever.  I can change their name, but I cannot delete them.  They are annoying.

One suggestions was: doing it through "Home Control" option -- my three dots does not have that option.  Is there another way?  The suggestion was:

I was able to find some steps that may help with removing the unwanted devices from Google Home. It looks like we have to unlink their manufacturer from the app. You can do so by following these steps.

  1. Open the Google Home app and tap on the Menu icon in the upper right corner (three dots).
  2. Tap on the option ‘Home Control’.
  3. In the ‘Devices’ tab, you will see a list of your connected devices. Tap on the Menu icon in the upper right corner of the screen (three dots).
  4. Tap on the option ‘Manage Accounts’ to open the list of linked services.
  5. In the ‘Linked Services’ section, tap on the name of the manufacturer for the device you want to remove.
  6. This will open the screen for this service provider. Tap on the ‘Unlink Account’ option.
  7. To confirm, tap on ‘Unlink’.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.  Best regards, Garrett DS

Come on Google, why are we still waiting for this basic feature? Its been years! You are one of the worlds leading techno giants, surely you can add a simple «delete device from list» option. Its like the second thing programmers learn, after learning to add entries to a database.

thx so much!  I was sure I was overlooking something because I could delete devices on the Google Wifi app, but Google migrated my network over to Google Home which apparently does not allow me to delete devices -- I have 54 which I have now individually named (---------------Windows device1 through ------------Windows devce 54).  I am hoping that since all 54 were formerly named Windows device (all 54 with same name) that maybe Google will delete them sometime since each was used exactly once over two years ago (had something to do with a VPN and/or dynamic IP assignment so that every time this person logged on it for some reason thought it was a new device).  I deleted hundreds of these "devices" when I could on Google Wifi.  Now I can't on Google Home, and I just would like to clean it up so I can monitor my network.  Thx so much.

Hi, californiadream.

Thanks for reaching out to the community with your question. As of right now, there is no way to manually edit the device list, but there are others who have been asking about that feature and it's a suggestion that I've passed along to our internal feedback teams. I can understand how it would be frustrating seeing those older devices still listed. In most cases, devices should fall off after 60 days of no activity on the network, but sometimes they do stay longer.

Thanks.

Hi Jeff, I'd like to piggy back on this and ask that you pass this feature request along. It's an incredibly important feature users have been asking ever since Google wifi launched, and it just isn't plausible to delete the whole home to clear the list every so often when we have over 50 connected items when things change in our lives and devices need to be removed.

Thanks for hearing us out.

Thanks for the input, Allyson. I've passed it along and it's something I'm seeing asked for more commonly from community members.
