Gaming laptop with low internet speeds

Community Member

i recently bought a gaming laptop with a Killer Wifi Adapter and it’s not communicating with the Google Wifi. Everything else in the house is working and I’ve taken the laptop to a friends house who uses another type of router and it connects perfectly. A technician was also unable to solve the problem and determined that the wifi card doesn’t communicate with the Google router. All drivers are up to date.

anyone able to help?

It sounds like the issue is not the Google Wifi but instead the settings of the adapter.

Intel recommends these settings for your card:

Recommended Settings for 802.11ac Connectivity (for the original Google Wifi and Nest Wifi)

Recommended Settings for 802.11ax Connectivity (for the new Nest Wifi Pro)

Please let me know if this solves the issue or if you still have the same problem.

Thanks Patrick, tried those recomended settings and it didn't fix the issue.

To confirm - my adapter is Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX1675i Wireless.

I don't have a nest pro, only the original one.

Thanks for the update.

Please try the below and advise if you are still having issues. Since it is specific to the device, I suspect the issue is with the card/laptop but still could be a setting on the Google Wifi that is not playing nice; we need to verify which is the culprit.

 Laptop Troubleshooting:

  1. Resetting Network Devices and Network Stack(follow the instructions for resetting the network stack only)
    • Test after completing. If the issue is still present, move to the Google Wifi Troubleshooting.

Google Wifi Troubleshooting:

  1. Change your DNS server (I suggest using the Google Public DNS )
    • Test after changing. If issue still present, proceed to the next item
  2. Disable IPv6

Hey folks,

We appreciate your help here, @PatrickP_Viking.
@Needhelplol, I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Hi Mel,

yes the issue still remains. Laptop has fast internet connections elsewhere including hotspot. I have done what @PatrickP_Viking has suggested and it hasn’t worked.

appreciate any further help. I’m almost sure it’s something to do with the wifi adapter not communicating with Google nest

Hey @Needhelplol,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6.
Change your DNS server into on the primary and on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Abi,

Just using the Google Wifi Nest network, nothing else. I've also tried changing the DNS server on primary and secondary with no fix. No other devices are dropping, only the laptop. Tried unplugged/restarting. Might try the factory reset however i have a feeling it wont change anything.

Might look into buying a new router/mesh setup.

Hi Mel,

I did a full factory reset on the Google Nest and the problem still remains. Might be that I'll just need to purchase a new mesh system from another brand. Again, the laptop is working fine on multiple non Google Nest mesh setup and also hotspots
