Google Nest Two Routers problem

Ubiquitousdelay

My original setup is a google nest mesh setup with one router and 2 points at my house. Everything has been going very well.

The mesh network does not extend far enough to cover my pool with a strong enough signal so I laid a cable to the pool area and purchased another google nest router. The router is wired to a switch that is connected to the main router. The pool router seems to be working fine and extends the network as I had hoped.

Problem - My points are often reporting that they have a "weak" connection and wired devices connected to a point having intermittent issues - Zoom freezes and internet seems to drop every hour or so, sometimes more.

I believe that the points are trying to connect to the pool router instead of the main router in the basement (the main router is much closer).

Does this scenario make sense to anyone and is there a way to ensure that points only connect to the main router? Thank you.

Mesh/ 802.11s does not travel over ethernet, so the wireless point are not trying to connect to the new wired router.

The problem could be the mixing of both wired and wireless backhaul. In general it'a recommended to go either all wired, or all wireless. More details about how 802.11s works:

Hello,  Thanks for the great and thorough response.  Since I am using Google Nest wifi I don't have the option to hardwire everything as these points don't have ethernet.  The nest wifi router I was trying to use was wired from an unmanaged switch behind my main nest router.   From what I am seeing I am not sure how to get wifi to my pool area.  I guess I can use the ethernet path and set up a different network at the pool.  This is less than ideal but will at least get me some internet there.  Thanks for your help.

Sounds great, Ubiquitousdelay. Thanks for the response.

I'll go ahead and mark this as resolved for now, but if you need anything else down the line, please go ahead and start up a new discussion.

Thanks!
