Google Nest Wi-Fi Flashing Yellow Light

So we all agree that this entire line of products was a mistake, should have never made it to market, and is a defective. We all agree that there should have been a class action suit long ago against google for allowing these to be sold and for not issuing a recall. We are all fully aware that the google employees who monitor and reply to these posts are less than useless gaslighters who only exist to lock threads with no discernible resolution.

With that out of the way, my Nest system is failing about every other night now (which should come as a shock to no one.) when it does, it emits a light with about the intensity of a fire engine that wakes me up. Does anyone know if there’s a way to disable or dim the floodlight that comes out of this thing? Ironically, it seems to do a better job of lighting up a space than the $350 nest floodlight I also wasted money on.

we’ve started wrapping a tow around the base of it for when it inevitably loses connection and flashes like a mall security guard jeep for a couple of hours while EVERY OTHER DEVICE IN MY HOME remains connected to my otherwise reliable network with no issue.

Hey @CarWDWRX .

Apologizes for the incorrect information in the previous post but there IS a way to turn off the light if you are not wanting to resolve the reason behind the indicator that I forgot...

Go to Google Home app > Wifi > Point(s) > select point > Settings > Status light brightness

Again, apologizes for the misinformation. In regards to your dissatisfaction, you can provide feedback directly through the app if you have not already or contact through the Contact Nest Help page.

Hey @CarWDWRX

There is no way to disable the LED indicator. If you are getting a yellow light it is an indication that the modem and Nest Wifi router have lost connection. Devices will still remain connected to the Nest Wifi but they will not have internet access. The connection to the modem is controlled/allowed by the modem so if you are experiencing the issue nightly, it is likely either a modem issue, ISP issue, or both; I'd advise to contact the respective Support for them.

Below is an article that covers the lights in more detail and contains a troubleshooter that will help to verify the Nest Wifi is functioning properly. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Wifi device light meanings: Understanding LED indicators

Well the gaslighting was right on cue! If my modem works fine with every single other product in my house and consistently ONLY has an issue with this trash product, no…. The problem is not my modem or ISP. The problem is that Google rushed a critically flawed product to market and refused to acknowledge it. These forums are full of people like me that are still trying to salvage their purchase because they aren’t ready to sink hundreds into a better one from a better company just get. The thousands of threads of other users with the exact same experience would support that. Run along, your unhelpful help isn’t needed here.

The ANNOYING yellow light can't be turned off, even though the system works properly!!

Hi cloureiro,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry that you are having issues with your Google Nest Wifi lights. I’d be happy to help you. Let’s check it out.

That yellow light can be quite annoying even if your Google Nest Wifi is functioning well. Here's the thing: by default, the status light cannot be completely turned off on Google Nest Wifi routers. However, you can adjust the brightness to make it less intrusive.

Here's how to adjust the brightness of the status light:

  1. Open the Google Home App: Locate and launch the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Select Nest Wifi: On the app's home screen, find your Google Nest Wifi router and tap on it to access its settings.
  3. Device Settings: Look for the "Device settings" or "Settings" section within the Nest Wifi options.
  4. Status Light: There should be an option titled "Status light" or "LED brightness."
  5. Adjust Brightness: Tap on the "Status light" or "LED brightness" option. You might see a slider or a selection of brightness levels (low, medium, high).
  6. Choose Lower Brightness: Select the lowest brightness level available. This should significantly dim the yellow light while still allowing a faint glow to indicate the router is operational.

While you can't completely eliminate the light, dimming it should make it less bothersome in your environment.

Future Updates: While there's no current option to completely disable the status light, keep an eye out for future updates to the Google Home app or Nest Wifi software. We're always looking for ways to make you all feel welcome. Your feedback is important to us. Please help us improve by filling out the feedback form. This is really helpful.

Hi Mario!!

Could you figure this out? You’ve just bought an expensive brand-new car and now you’re returning to the dealer with a yellow light flashing all the time on your dashboard. After inspection, the dealer’s technician tells you that it’s a faulty light, the car is just fine and there is no way to fix it or turn it off but hey, I can make you happy by teaching you how to dim the light. What would you say to the technician? (1) Oh thanks, I’m happy now, or (2) And I’ll cover the light with duct tape or (3) Are you out of your *** mind?

We're dealing with a faulty product for which, as you say:

"... there's no current option to completely disable the status light"

100%. This is a fundamentally defective product and no one here wants to acknowledge it.

Yes, please let us know how it goes when you fill out the form and Google pretends to have no idea why their defective product is defective. Be sure to let us know how they’ll blame your ISP even though there are thousands of threads of users experiencing the exact same issue as you.

THIS IS WHAT I WROTE ON THE FORM

I have used Google/Nest devices for a long time without any problem (look at my account in the Google Store). And I keep continually upgrading them with the new model. In December 2023, I upgraded my router again ( Google Nest WiFi Pro). In April/May, out of the blue, it began to flash a yellow light. After so many attempts - to no avail - to stop the annoying yellow flashing light, I assumed that my router was defective and, hence, purchased, from Amazon this time, the next new model (Google Nest WiFi Pro - 6E). What was not my disappointment when the new model began flashing the yellow light too!! I've re-installed, factory reset, and did everything imaginable to disappear that aggravating yellow flashing light. The only thing that comes to mind is that this product line is factory defective. Everything else in connection to both two routers is working flawlessly, so I can't understand a warning light pointing to a "possible" problem that does NOT exist.
