Google WiFI Point "Connection Failed"

brianbrian

I have tried and failed and tried (and failed) again and again. I bought the Google WiFI 3-pack to set up a mesh at my house and had no issues. I'm now trying to do the same thing at my parents' place. Same set-up, different outcome. I have connected the first point to my router, but when I try and add the second I keep getting "Connection Failed." I have done everything Google has recommended before: factory reset, unplugging everything and re-plugging everything. Deleting and reinstalling the app. Nothing works. Not sure what to do next. Thanks in advance!

I've had the same issue previously. I finally got it working after multiple factory resets of the wifi point. Unfortunately I don't have any 'fix' for it other than persistence. I'm sure you've considered this since you've set one up previously at your house, but make sure your phone is actively connected to the Wifi network you  created setting up the 1st point plugged in to the router. Also make sure the points are within range of each other (or set up in the same room).

I just saw the iOS tag on the post. I think there are some known issues with setup on the iOS version of the app. If you have an android phone available I'd try setting it up with that.

Hey, brainbrian.

Sorry for the issues you're having with your WiFi point. This is actually part of a known issue that is being worked on internally. I don't have any timeline for a fix on this, but I will update the thread as I find out more about the issue.

Thanks.

I am having the same issue.  This is very frustrating.   It would be nice if the app had some error codes to help track down the issue instead of a generic “connection failed”.

If only the person on the help chat told me there was an issue before going off and changing things with my ISP.

Can you explain a bit more what the issue is exactly?

I bought the nest for its expandability and now I am prevented from doing this

Hey, everyone.

We have a lot of new reports that I'm noticing and I'm still keeping an eye on things. Unfortunately I still don't have news of when a fix might be ready, but I'm hoping to hear something sooner than later. I know this is frustrating for all of you. I'll share when I know more.

Thanks.

An update would be good....I have a a lovely white £120 paper weight that I would rather have attached to my  mesh

Hey everyone—so I’m not sure why, maybe because it was the 50 millionth try, but pressing the secret factory reset button finally worked. I was able to connect all my points and it seems to be fixed.

Hey, everyone.

I just wanted to check in. It looks like some people are having success using Android over iOS or going through multiple resets. As far as iOS goes, there is a known bug that is being worked on. One way that seems to help is to set up all your devices in the same room before placing them where they will be used. Proximity during setup seems to matter for whatever issue is affecting iOS. Set everything up in one room and then move the devices after setup to where they will be used. Give that a try and see if it helps in your instance.

Thanks.

Hi, all.

Just a quick check in to see if my last suggestion was able to work out for you. If you're still having issues, please let me know.

Thanks.

I have the same issue here with an iOS app

After speaking with Google, the rep talked me through connecting the parent wifi point to the slave wifi point using an Ethernet cable and it worked perfectly. Thank you google support.

Hey, everyone.

It looks like we were able to get this all sorted out. I'm happy to see things working. As we have our resolutions here, I'll go ahead and lock the thread up. If you have any other needs or need anything else going forward, please feel free to open up a new thread.

Thanks.

I resolved the issue by using an Andriod app instead of IOS app.
