Google WiFi hub flashing blue

Mjds

Hi,

I have recently purchased 3 Google WiFi points, not Nest, to create a mesh network across the house so we get strong WiFi everywhere however I am having a problem with one of the points.

It's stuck flashing blue. Not pulsing like the others when it came to set them up but flashing.

I have tried a factory reset by pressing the button, then plugging in the cable and holding it down for 10 seconds. The light turns white, then starts flashing blue like it's supposed to but it's now been doing that for 2 days so I assume this hasn't fixed the issue.

To be clear, it was flashing blue ever since it came out of the box. Not since the factory reset but it's obviously continued to flash since the factory reset.

Is there anything else I can try or is this particular hub faulty?

The other 2 work fine and I have set a mesh up with these 2 for now.

Any help appreciated.

Exact same issue here! My 3rd one does nothing but flash blue. (Blinking, no pulsing)

The others were simple and straightforward on the setup, but this one won’t do anything but flash blue for days.

(and yes - I also did the factory reset for old a new wifi points - same result)

Are we getting faulty wifi points?

Hey!

I actually just contacted support in the end and they're sending a replacement after trying a few things which was really simple so I recommend that.

Apparently, you can hold down the factory reset for 3 seconds, plug the cable in while holding down the reset until the light turns orange and that's then a software reset....let it do that for 2 minutes and then unplug it. Do the factory reset process again and wait at least 10mins to see if it has an impact.

If not, like I say contact support. They're actually pretty helpful.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, Mjds.

I just tried that as well. No luck on my end, either.

Still blinking blue, unfortunately.

Hey, Designson.

I would give support a try. You can contact them here: https://bit.ly/3o1aRK5.

If you have a faulty device, they can help you sort that out and make it right for you. I'll be happy to keep helping you as well, but that might be your fastest route given the troubleshooting you have already tried.

Thanks.

Hi, Designson.
I just wanted to check in real fast to see if you saw my reply and to find out if you reached out to support. Also, if you're still needing some help on this, please let me know. I want to make sure I keep on eye on this if it's still unresolved.
Thanks.

Hi, everyone.
As we haven't had any activity here recently I'm going to go ahead and close the thread. If you have more to add, feel free to start a new discussion.
Thanks

Hey, Mjds and Designson.

Sorry about the setup issues you're having with your WiFi points. That sounds really frustrating and confusing. Let's look at what's going on and come up with a fix for it. I do have some questions that should steer us into an answer.

  • Are the points new or secondhand?
  • When you have done a reset, have you tried making the problematic point the main router and using the others as the mesh points?
  • Is the Home app able to see the point, or is it totally invisible during setup?

If you can answer those questions, I think we can sort this out. I look forward to hearing back.

Thanks.

1. All points are brand new, bought and sealed together as a 3-pack.

2. I have tried making the problematic point the main router. When factory resetting correctly, the problematic point displays a white light, then 'flashes/blinks' blue (at which point, I release the button in the back). This continues to 'flash/blink' blue beyond 3 hrs. (I've had it flash blue for days)
3. The home app isn't able to find the problematic unit become is never becomes discoverable with a 'pulsing' blue. It only remains 'flashing/blinking' blue.
