Do I have to keep the google WiFi points plugged in at night when I’m sleeping? Or does unplugging and plugging it back again need a reconnect of the point to the WiFi? Because I unplugged it once and it wasn’t able to do anything before I had to manually go on the app and connect the point to my router again. Thanks!

It should survive a reboot/ taking out power. I'd try again just to be sure. But my 2nd wirelessly meshed Nest Wifi router survive reboots.
What exact device are we talking here?

It’s the nest wifi router and point and I bought it in the google store

Ok, thanks for the added info, fios_user.
What olavrb said still applies. Your WiFi points should retain all their settings after being unplugged or powered down and turned back on. Out of curiosity, is there a reason why you would want the WiFi point unplugged overnight? Let me know what you're looking to do there and we can probably come up with a better way to manage that for you.
Thanks.

Honestly just trying to cut down the bill a little.

Hey, fios_user.
You mean to save on power bills? Ok, that makes some sense. Are you still going through this daily and still seeing the need to do a full setup once more?
01-20-2022 04:06 PM
I haven’t unplugged it ever since so I’m not too sure. Maybe it’s because the first time I set it up I didn’t do it correctly so after I unplugged it and plugged it back in days later, I thought I had to restart the whole setting up process.

Hi, fios_user.
Have you tried performing a factory reset and setting things up as new once more to see if that helps clear things up?
01-21-2022 09:53 AM
No, but I did change my DNS settings to custom because my WiFi is slow and I had to unplug my modem, router, and points and plug them back in in two minutes. It didn’t really help my internet speed though. I still get lag spikes in game which makes it unplayable.

Hi, fios_user.
Did you use the Google DNS settings for your custom DNS? If you used something else, what did you end up using?
Thanks.
01-24-2022 09:00 AM
I’m using custom. 8888 and 8844
01-24-2022 09:02 AM
Ok, thanks. Those are indeed the Google public DNS servers. Thanks for letting me know.

I’ve been experiencing a lot of packet loss and ping spikes in games. Do you know why that is?
01-24-2022 09:20 AM
Hey, fios_user.
The packet loss thing is actually an issue we've been tracking recently. A few other users have reported the same, and we have an internal team reviewing things and working on it. As soon as I know more about that, I'll let you know what's happening there.
Thanks.
01-24-2022 11:21 AM
Okay, thank you.

Any updates Jeff? I get sudden terrible lag spikes, I'll be in meetings and my computer will be attached to a point (not the main router) and suddenly they can't hear me for a second. Never an issue if I'm connected to the main router, it makes me want to trash this system tbh.

The thing that fixed my problem was updating bios

Hi, Azielman.
We're still looking into causes and fixes on this. Some people are finding solutions, but nothing that's a solid solution quite yet. I'll update as I find out more. Thanks to all who are sharing what worked for them.

Hey, everyone.
As an update for you all, I wanted to let you know that we have a firmware update coming out now. Some people may have already received the update, but most will see it coming still. Everyone will have it before the end of April. If you receive that update and don't see an improvement in your issues here, please let me know and we can keep looking into things.
Thanks.

Hey, all.
Just to give a bit more info, the update version for both Google WiFi and Nest WiFi will be 14150.43.80. If you are seeing a different version number when you check in Google Home, you have yet to receive the updated firmware. Let me know if you have any questions about that.
Thanks.
04-08-2022 11:38 AM
Hello, how exactly do you check that in google home app?
04-11-2022 01:05 PM
Go to Settings (cogwheel graphic in the top-right of the screen) for the WiFi router and look for the software version.

Just wish to report that the performance of my Nest WiFi point connection has improved considerably with the update. I've had it for a week now and the speed has gone up from 40-80% of the speed of my ISP speed to being consistently at 95-100% of my full ISP speed. My WiFi point has four brick walls between it and the router so this performance is impressive.

Hi, fios_user.
I just wanted to jump in real fast to see if you saw olavrb's reply and to see if you still needed some help on this or if you were able to get it sorted out. If you are still needing some help, just let us know and we'll be happy to continue helping.
Thanks.
