Google Wifi pucks keep power cycling and won't connet

I recently purchased a set of three Google Wi-Fi gen1 pucks.  They power on, and I did manage to get one added to my Google Home, however now they repeatedly power cycle when turned on and won't connect.  Here's the basic behavior:

  • Power on - Blue solid light for 15 seconds
  • Light goes out for 5 seconds, then blue blinking pairing light comes on for 10-15 seconds (varies between cycles)
  • Unit power cycles and blue solid light comes back on, lather rinse repeat

I have verified that it is a power cycle and not just a repeat of the pattern by using power from my PC, so when it powers on it makes the Windows connect to USB sound, then when the power cycle happens it makes the disconnect and connect sounds in rapid succession. (Don't worry, I only did this to verify, I am using the included adapters normally.)

I have tried both published methods of factory reset on all three pucks:

  • Power on and hold reset button until it blinks orange, then release on blue - this method worked to get one of the pucks working at first, but I powered it off to move it to its permanent spot on the shelf and now pressing the button while powered on has zero effect, or the power cycle happens before the reset has completed.  The other two pucks have done this since I first powered them on.
  • Power on while holding reset button and release when blinks blue - this looks like it's going to work, then the puck power cycles again.

This power cycle issue is now happening with all three devices, so they are basically bricked at this point.  I would love to hear from the community how to resolve this issue, which I assume is a firmware update gone wrong.

Thanks in advance!

Hello -

After several frustrating hours I traced the issue down to a faulty power brick.  I used a different brick and it immediately started working as intended.
