Google wifi failed to update blocking policy of family wi-fi group, please try again later.

All of a sudden today when I attempt to Pause any device on my google wifi I get the following message:

Google wifi failed to update blocking policy of family wi-fi group, please try again later.

I have restarted the network multiple times and continue to encounter the issue.  How can this be fixed?

Doesn’t work!

What's worse is, on a Samsung Galaxy S23, the unblocking error is not even thrown.  I had to do additional troubleshooting with my wife iphone to even see the unblocking error mentioned.  I also spoke to google for well over an hour on Friday to no avail...   i have been dreading the factory reset, but it seems like it might be the fix...argh....

Factory reset fixed the issue.  With this, I had to establish a new network and re-attach all WIFI points and several Google Speakers, then reestablish network connectivity to all devices.  Was a painful process, and shouldn't have been required.  Google screwed up on this one.

I am still trying to setup everything. Kasa plugs are a pain to re-setup.

factory reset solved the problem

Yes, I am trying to avoid this. Takes me 3-4 hours since I have around 25-30 different devices I have to reset. Takes forever and is super annoying. I have had to do factory reset 3 other times and it was a pain in the butt. Probably my only option since it appears google literally has zero folks on their staff who actually can troubleshoot. “Ctrl+alt+dlt” type answers.

This is clearly a software issue that they accidentally pushed in the last update. Not sure how they haven’t developed patch code and pushed it out. Totally ridiculous and unacceptable.

Have had this issue for weeks now. I have been the biggest proponent for Google/Nest Home products and am starting to eat my words and look like an absolute fool. This will be the 3rd time in 4 years I have had to do an entire factory reset of the network. Very, very disappointed in Google and their ability to troubleshoot and solve basic issues. This might be the last straw for me.

Anyone know of non-google router and points that would work with Google Home since my entire house is Nest/Google products?

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to know that when you attempt to pause any device on your WiFi you are getting the message: “your Google WiFi failed to update the blocking policy of the family WiFi group, please try again later”.  Thank you for sharing with us the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve the inconvenience.  No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • What device model are you encountering the problem with? (Google Wifi, Nest Wifi, or Nest Wifi Pro)
  • Could you please let me know  what Google WiFi generation you are using?

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna

I have the Google Wifi - AC1200 - Mesh WiFi System.

Honestly I am extremely disappointed with the lack of help Google has been providing for this issue impacting many users!  It’s insane that it’s been over 2 weeks since the last update from Google which was a generic trouble-shooting response and now this generic “what model” are you using.  I am never purchasing a Google product again it’s ridiculous the crap support provided.

For me it's Nest Wifi, Google store no longer sells them.

I was having the same issues, reset my entire network to factory defaults and had to set everything back up, but it did resolve the problem

We have a google WiFi setup. I’ve already called support, ran through a bunch of troubleshooting steps that took over an hour, only for the agent to tell me that THIS IS A KNOWN ENGINEERING ISSUE WITH NO CURRENT RESOLUTION. Please stop wasting our time and provide the patch to fix this problem. For other users on this thread, a factory reset is the fastest way forward. It took me 3 hours. To Google, the lack of support on this issue which has now progressed for almost a month and “pretend” concern is disappointing to say the least.

Well said. This is pathetic.

I have had the same issue since a month ago, hopefully google can come up with a fix as so many people have first encountered this issue as of a month ago

I kept getting this error message when trying to pause or unpause a device. I finally quickly spammed all the devices one by one pressing unpause and it finally worked!

I have same issue. Looks like I have do to factory reset and reconnect all my 33 devices.

sorry to hear. I am still trying to figure out how to set up my switches and my nest flood camera doesn’t work anymore so I have to call Google.

I did factory reset and set same network name and password. All the devices are connected automatically. But the family groups I have created are gone. The custom names I have set for each device is gone. I am surprised Google is not focusing on this issue.

This is really smart and not sure why I never did that when I had to reset with prior issues. I did this and it significantly cut down the reset time. Only had to reconnect my mesh points and all other previous devices automatically reconnected since I kept the same network and password.

And this of course fixed the stupid “pause” issue.

This is still happening , even after downloading the most recent Google home app update today.

Same here.  Was hoping latest update would fix this bug however I am still getting the same error.

I am having the same issue. Have there been any traction on resolving this problem? New Google Nest devices? Please advise

No traction as far as I am aware. I keep waiting and hoping for an update to the app to avoid a factory reset but starting to lose hope. Would be nice to hear from someone at Google on if the issue is being worked on and estimated timeline on a fix.

Hi everyone,

The team is aware of this issue and actively investigating. We'll keep you updated when there's more information to share, thank you for your patience.

LOL…………….

Still investigating after 2 months? Wow!

what a joke.

It’s been months . This is ridiculous, we have the whole house connected to this , in order to factory reset and re connect all devices will take a long time . There must be a patch update or something google can push .

It’s sad this is still going on….
