Google wifi new mesh out of range

BeagleWright

Just started to install the wifi mesh system with 3 pucks. The one plugged into the modem works. The network is created. When adding the second puck it finds it, scans the qr code but when it tries to add it, it says its out of range. I have factory reset the system twice. I moved the puck to the same room with the same results. My house is only 1700 sq ft and one level.

Try setting up the 2nd puck while it being hardwired from primary LAN port to secondary WAN port. Finish setup, let it update itself and reboot, then unplug power and ethernet and place it where you want it. Power it up, it should connect to your primary again. Repeat for the last one.

If that does not work, try with a different device (Android/iOS/iPadOS) running the Google Home app, same Google account.

If that does not work:

  • Where are you located?
  • Where did you buy your pucks? Are you sure they are ment for your region? Wifi (the standard) has different restrictions around the world, so US pucks is not good in EU, and mixing EU and US is even worse.

I don't work for Google.

Located in Indiana Us. Bought from Best Buy. I tried to hard wire it to the router like the first puck but it says i have two wired and it won't proceed. Do i wire it to the first puck or the router?

Hey, BeagleWright.

Sorry for the setup issues you're having. I'm sure that's been quite a frustration. Let's see what else we can do to get you working fully with your network setup.

I do have some questions about things that might point us in the right direction.

  • What mobile platform are you using to run the Google Home app? Is it iOS or Android?
  • Are you using the newest version of the Home app?
  • Have you tried taking the point that won't install and using it as the main router? Try swapping those points around to see if it works.

If you can let me know a little more, I'm sure I can help you out. I look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks.
