Help to change an existing Wi-Fi setup.

Hi. i’ve just moved into my girlfriend‘s house, and she has an existing two point mesh set up already. However, I need to add a second router/3rd point Bass to my office on the third floor, so that I can directly connect a line to each of my two computers, a PC and Mac. It also needs to operate as a mesh point.

my issue is that I’m not sure what I need to do in order to add it to the net work, or if I should simply reset it up as a new network?

I don’t believe the original set up was done using the Google Home app. I’m not even sure where to start.

Hello @Stronghouse

I would set this up as an additional mesh point in the existing network. If the current system was originally set up using the old Google WiFi app, it will need to be migrated to the Google Home app (using the same gmail account it was originally set up with). Your account can be invited to the "home" in that app, and then you can add your new device.

I would probably start by getting a Google Home set up with all of the right people in it – here are some instructions with more details on that: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9155535?hl=en

Here's a support page that provides more details on migrating the existing system into Google Home: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9547597?hl=en

Once you have the migration completed, you can follow these instructions to set up your new point: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7183148?hl=en#:~:text=Add%20an%20additional%20point

Note: if your new point has been used as part of another network in the past, it will need to be factory reset first.

Got it done. I actually ended up resetting everything from scratch, but it was pretty straight forward. I appreciate the quick reply and all the helpful info. Thanks so much!
