Help with Port Forwarding on Google Wifi

howaboutme

Hi all. I've searched hi and low about this very common issue w/ Google wifi. For some reason my port forwarding rules that I had to setup in the G Wifi app was lost and I can't seem to replicate it with the Home app. I've tried all of the options, DHCP reservations, IPv6 on or off, restarting device and router, nothing. I've confirmed the device is connected to the router because I can connect to it locally. One issue that boggles my mind is that it can only create a rule under UDP but not TCP or TCP/UDP. I believe the last time I set this up in the G wifi app I used TCP.

Any additional thoughts, please?

Okay so just thinking this over, despite the app not having and setting saved that could be souring things, I would suspect that there may be some sort of remnant setting left over from the previous router.   Suggestion would sadly be the same factory reset just to clear out any possible conflicts.  If that fails, then I am out of ideas, and hope that another community member can pick up my slack 🙂

Google home app, wifi, setting, advanced networking, port forwarding.  Add a rule by clicking the plus symbol .

My apologies if I didn't make it clear in the initial post. I know how to port forward. It's not working. I'm posting for help because port forwarding not working is a very common occurrences and I've tried a lot of the possible solutions to no avail.

Apologies if I misunderstood.  Okay so what happens when you go to create the rule? Are there error messages of any kind?  Also, you mentioned only being able to create UDP rules, can you not see the other options at all, are they greyed out..etc ?

For both TCP and TCP/UDP, I get an error that it cannot create the rule. For UDP only it works. The 2 other options are not greyed out. I am able to click on them but that's it.

Stepping back a second, I'm not sure what happened. I took my device offline for about a week. When I brought it online again recently, the port forwarding stopped. I checked to see if the rule existed and it did not. I'm not sure when the G wifi app went to read only but previous I was only able to successfully make port forwarding work was to use the wifi not, not the Home app. Thank you.

Sorry I read and responded too quickly.. let me do some tinkering with my own wifi and see what I can figure out.  Sorry I'm not more help, but on my end it all seems to work ..  only suggestion is the dreaded factory reset and setup fresh wifi .

No worries. I appreciate any help. I would, of course, prefer not to do a factory reset. But I have not made many configurations in the wifi so even a factory reset would just mean creating the same SSID and password.

Another note. The wifi (I have a mesh) was previously connected to my Verizon router. I realized today that it is not needed so I took the Verizon router offline and connected the G wifi directly to the ONT via ethernet. When I had the G wifi connected to the Verizon router, I had the Verizon router port forwarding the IP of the G wifi. I was emphasize again that this issue happened PRIOR to me taking it offline so I do not believe it has anything to do with it. I just wanted to add that in just in case it jars an issue. Thanks!

Okay. Thanks again.

Factory reset worked! Thank you!
