The 2.4ghz band in our neighbourhood is very congested and our baby monitor keeps cutting out (either when it's connected to Wifi or connected directly to the camera via 2.4ghz). Our mesh isn't helping with the congestion, and we only really need the mesh for 5ghz for our phones/laptops etc.. I can't see a way to disable to the 2.4ghz on the mesh; is this possible?

Disabling the 2.4GHz band is not an option. Is your baby monitor dual-band (i.e., does it support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz)? It should be picking the "best" option to connect to on its own. So, if it supports both bands, but is connecting at 2.4GHz, then it may be getting a stronger signal in that band (not a surprise given 2.4GHz goes further than 5GHz does).

The monitor is not dual band unfortunately, and I'm having a hard job finding an alternative monitor that has its own parent unit with screen that is dual band (very open to recommendations!). It seems to be stuck on channel 11 (not configurable...) which our mesh also uses for 2 of its nodes. It works for a while then there's a burst of signals from all over our neighborhood spanning the majority of 2.4ghz channels. Once this happens the connection to the camera is severed and only a camera reboot will bring it back.
The monitor is a Vtech RM7764HD for reference.

Ok, I think I'm starting to get a better understanding of your concerns. It looks like that baby monitor can work in either direct mode (where the camera and monitor talk to each other directly) or in "router" mode, where they both talk to your local WiFi network. I would recommend using router mode, so it isn't trying to compete with your local WiFi network. Have you tried that?

Unfortunately both router and direct modes lose their connection. Our phones use the router mode to see the video feed (whether or not the parent unit is on our home WiFi) and with either option all devices lose connection to the camera when the signal is interrupted. My wife noted that her phone sometimes lost WiFi connection in the baby's room too, and given I observed lots of 2.4ghz activity via WiFi Analyzer on my phone I'm presuming there's some kind of dead spot there. Hence why I'm invesitaging trying to turn off our 2.4ghz.
In the meantime I've disconnected one of our mesh nodes to reduce the channel congestion. So far the camera has remained connected, so as long as my wife doesn't mind reduced WiFi in the garden we will hopefully be ok...

In the end nothing I did helped with the connection of the baby monitor, so I've just fully re-enabled my mesh. However, Vtech have stated this is likely related to a known issue with their cameras and advised us to get a replacement from where we purchased it.
Seeing as we've had no other problems with our mesh since setting it up over a year ago I'm going to blame the baby monitor here. Thanks for following up with my query @EdwardT!

As an update for you, I wanted to let you know that we have a firmware update coming out now. Some people may have already received the update, but most will see it coming still. Everyone will have it before the end of April. Even if the baby monitor is to blame, there's always a chance that a newer software version will play more nice with it, so feel free to let us know if you see any changes after the upgrade.
