I can’t set up My Google mesh Wi-Fi router and two points-easy the first time but now I can’t! HELP?

I was easily able to set up my Google mesh Wi-Fi system that I bought a couple years ago. The first time I tried. Then I was experiencing connectivity issues so I disconnected the mesh Wi-Fi from my modem and the points as well for about a year. I just tried to set up the router and two points and failed repeatedly. I cannot get the router to connect to my Wi-Fi network. Can someone help me? I factory reset the router and I’m still experiencing problems trying to get it set up. I would appreciate any input, tremendously thank you!

Hi Sabrinatatiana,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble setting up your Google Wifi devices again. It can be frustrating when previously working tech gives you a hard time, and I'm here to help get this sorted out.

To start, could you please tell me a bit more about what you've tried so far? Specifically:

  • Could you describe the steps you took to perform the factory reset on your Google Wifi router and points?

  • Since you disconnected your Google Wifi system, has your modem or internet service been changed or updated in any way by your provider?

  • If you connect a computer or other device directly to your modem using an Ethernet cable, are you able to access the internet without any problems?

  • During the setup process in the Google Home app, are you receiving any specific error messages or error codes? If so, what do they say?

  • On the phone or tablet you're using for setup, have you previously set up this Google Wifi system in the Google Home app? If so, have you tried removing the old 'home' or Wi-Fi network from the app before starting the new setup?

  • Do you know if your modem is currently configured in 'bridge mode' or if it's acting as a router itself? Having two devices acting as routers on the same network can cause conflicts.

In the meantime, to ensure we're starting with a clean slate, I recommend performing a factory reset on all of your Google Wifi routers and any access points. You can find detailed instructions on how to do this here: Factory Reset Your Wi-Fi Device.

Once you've completed the factory reset on all devices, you can refer to this article for guidance on the setup process: Set up Nest Wifi Pro or Nest Wifi.

Please keep me updated on your progress after performing the factory reset and attempting the setup again. I'll be here to assist you further based on your responses.

Regards,

Kevin
