Moving the three Google Wifi extenders to improve signal.

Surprisingly I keep getting suggestions that two of my Wifi Extenders have a weak signal. They are a room away (20ft away) from the main unit and my Router which are in a different room. I discovered that the Unit I tried to use in my workshop/garage wouldn’t connect and so had to move it to a closer location to the master. Having relocated indoors, can I now rename this unit, instead of its first initial name of “Garage”?

Hi Abi, whilst I have successfully moved the three wifi boosters as much as I have been able (living in a small two bedroom bungalow) I am disappointed by their poor coverage. As my Nest Doorbell Camera (Gen 2) kept switching offline and the Mesh Test confirmed poor signal, I double checked all the system and followed the guidance. I had wanted to locate one unit into the adjoining Garage/Workshop, but the signal strength made it necessary to move to inside the main Hallway, next to the MiniHub speaker and Front door camera. I also find it frustrating that there is a delay in receiving Visitor responses from the Doorbell about two feet away. Sadly there is also quite a delayed response in my iPhone/iPad showing the camera feed. I was hoping to see a great improvement for the the considerable investment made.

Hi Harriflex16,

A few questions: Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

Yes my Internet provider fine tuned my Router to improve speeds etc. After a Factory reset hopefully all continues to be ok. Disappointed nevertheless that the three Wifi extenders struggle to improve, given that they are all one room away and no further than 20ft away from Base.
