My chromecast is "reading" the different devices as different networks

Hello,

I've recently updated my network to the Google Nest Wifi Pro, and I'm using two acess points.

Now I'm having problems casting to the chromecasts.

I've verified that if the chromecast and the mobile phone are connected to different acess points (just have two) it's not possible to cast from the phone to the chromecast.

Problem is that most of the times the mobile is connected to one and the chromecast is connected to other and this is not enabling the cast option on the google home app.

Just verified and if i change the chromecast device and the mobile to the same division, and turn the other acess point off, they will connect to the same acess point, and thus enabling the cast option on the google home app (and enabling the cast from google chrome and other apps!)

How is is possible to go around this issue?

As I bought the Mesh Pro to solve internet problems accross the house, and I'm now facing a new issue...

Thanks in advance for any possible help.

Update on the previous post:

can only cast if the chromecast is connected to the main device.
if connected to the access points the option to cast is disabled.

Hi jbrasmartins,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that the cast button is not appearing when the Chromecast and the mobile phone are not on the same Wi-Fi network. No worries; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I have a couple of questions for you:

  • What model of Chromecast do you have?
  • What is the distance between each device and the router?
  • Are any other devices experiencing the same issue?
  • Does the Chromecast work fine when it is connected to the main router? Does it cast?
  • Does your modem have a combined modem/router unit?

Knowing this information will allow me to provide you with the best

If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further.

Best regards,

Nery.

Dear Nerys,

Thank you for your reply, and for your time in advance.

Bellow are the reply to your questions:

- Chromecast Gen 3 Media Streamer / Samsung S23+

- Distance: same room, about 1m;

- the problem is between the cast and the mobile phone, samsung,

- Chromecast and casting option works fine when connected to main router;

- modem is modem+router from vodafone;

Other important information that might help:

This casting problem only started once I implemented the Google Mesh network, If I disable this network and acess the old wifi, reseting the chromecast, all goes fine.

For what I've understood the problem seems to be somekind of miss communication between the mesh devices.

While with the new google mesh devices on, If I turn the second mesh device off by pulling the plug, and all devices are connected to the first one, the option to chromecast appears in the google home app of the mobile device, almost immediately, inside the options of the chromecast device.

You can cast, share, and mirror the screen, with no problem and without any lag.

If you turn the second mesh on afterwards, the devices are able to find the chromecasts but after a while the option either disapears or it get's intermitent option to cast, and it connects and disconnects, in seconds.

This seems to be a problem concerning the way the mesh devices are creating the network among each other, and passing this information to the devices.

If I restart the network or refresh the network the problem seems to disappear sometimes, but after a while it apears again.

Once again thank you for your time.

Hi again jbrasmartins,

Thanks for your quick reply!

One thing you mentioned caught my attention: You have a modem with router mode enabled. A quick question for you: have you disabled the router mode of your modem? If not, this could be causing the situation.

This is something called "Double NAT". It happens when you have two routers (each with its own WiFi network), and your Chromecast might be connecting to the wrong one.

I share with you an article that talks about how to disable the double NAT in two different ways.
