Nest Router remote replacement

My previous nest just died and I will be replcacing with a new one, same type.  Problem is it's for my rental property 3 hours drive away and I have guests so they will need to set up the new router for me.  Will this be possible if I am not present?  Will I need to assist the activation through my current Google Home app?  And will I even be able to since I'm not attached to the wifi at my rental property, but rather on my home network?  Any help would be great!  thanks

Hello @tbraley44

Oof. I can't answer this definitively, but since the security behind all of this is tied to your Google account, I seriously doubt you'll be able to set it up remotely, and they would need to log in to your* Google account to set it up as you from there. You could create a new Google account just for this and give them the password so they can get through the setup. Then you'd want to change the password on that account after it's working so their devices can no longer authenticate to that account after it's all working properly. That would make remote management a little more tedious, since you'd have to switch between multiple Google accounts in the Google Home app. But, that does work, so it's not impossible.

Alternatively, have them set it up using their account, and when you have another reason to be in the area, do a factory reset and set it up again under your account while you're there. That's simpler, but wouldn't let you remotely manage it.

Thank you for the reply, Michael.  Actually, my guest was savvy enough to do exectly what you described and crisis is averted.
