Nest WiFi factory reset issue

TerryOStype
Community Member

I have Nest WiFi with a router and one WiFi point. The connection to the WiFi point was having intermittent connection issues and I read somewhere that a factory reset and new set up could potentially solve the issues.

Stupidly I have glued a piece of wood to the bottom to wall mount it. This means that the QR code and the set up code aren't visible. I've tried removing the wood/glue but still can't see anything.

Is there any way of reconnecting the WiFi point without that QR code and set up code?

The Nest Wifi point also has a setup code engraved into the rubber pad, can you find it?

Edit: Found a image that shows it:

I don't work for Google.

Unfortunately not, the glue has gummed up the base so the engraving isn't visible.

Without QR nor the setup code I think you're not able to set it up again.

I'll escalate the thread just to get it confirmed from Google support.

Hi TerryOStype,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have. Just so we’re on the same page, are we going to be working with your Nest Wifi router or your Nest Wifi point? If it’s your Nest Wifi router, try the steps below:

  1. Using an Ethernet cable, connect a computer directly to the Nest Wifi router that's missing the QR code label.
  2. Open your computer’s web browser and go to http://192.168.84.1/api/v1/status
  3. Look for the “setupNetwork” section of the output.
  4. Find the “ssid” (this will be the name of the setup Wifi network) and the “psk” (this will be the password used to connect).
  5. Manually connect to the SSID and enter the PSK to connect to the Nest Wifi router and begin the setup process.

For more information and troubleshooting, open this link.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for helping, olavrb!

Best,

Dan

It's not, I bought it as a pair but it's the WiFi point rather than the router. I still have the box with a sticker with a barcode and serial number if that could potentially be useful?

Hey TerryOStype,

Thanks for the additional information. You can scan the QR code in the box of the Google Nest Wifi point to get it added to your mesh network. Please tell me if you are still having issues so I can further help.

Sincerely,
Lovely

Hi, thanks for your reply. This wasn't the QR in the box but a sticker with a serial number on the bottom of the box.

Hi TerryOStype,

If that's the case, were you able to get your Google Nest Wifi point setup? You can factory reset it to start over and configure it again. You may also try to uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app and see if that helps.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,
Lovely

Hi, it was set up but not performing well so I did a factory reset and this is where this particular issue came about. I glued wood to the bottom of the wifi point and can't see the QR code or the set up code on the base. I was wondering if the sticker from the bottom of the box would help.
