Nest Wifi Pro keeps disconnecting every day

SD1978
Community Member

I just purchased a 3 pack Nest Wifi Pro replacing my previous Google Wifi around 4 days back. Since then, every day (over night) it keeps getting disconnected. I have to unplug it and plug it back on to get it connected again.  This never happened with the previous version of Google Wifi. What do I do? I schedule large data downloads/uploads during the night and if it disconnects, I have to start from scratch again.

Yeah unfortunately you are not the only one. This thing is junk and Google has been completely silent.

I had that problem with the nest wifi i just replaced.  Both of my points would disconnect constantly and had to always reset them.  I haven't had that problem with the pro yet...  I hope I don't.

Same thing happening to me with my new Nest Wifi Pro. I have to power cycle the primary router to bring it back. There are at least a couple of other topics on this issue.

Same thing is happening to me after upgrading from the first gen google Wi-Fi to the nest pro, nearly every day it goes down despite my spectrum internet being fully up and connected.

Is this really the reply that’s flagged as the answer?  Is there a solution to this?

No solution! Happy to help without giving any assistance!

It's been almost a year where's your solution ? I thought your teams were working on it ?

I have seen several people posting about this issue.  And I have seen only generic responses with basic troubleshooting steps that do not resolve the issue as far as I can tell.  Did you restart?  Did you reset the system?  Did you put your modem in bridge mode?  It seems like there is a deeper issue that goes beyond this normal troubleshooting and I've seen nothing that appears to show an actual explanation of what is going on or actual solutions.  Until I see that I'm staying away from Google/Nest wifi products.  I WANT to like them and use them but I need some response to these issues that makes sense to me.

What is the status of this. I have a 1Gbps connection yet, devices on the google pro wifi network either lose connectivity daily (all at once) or drop to <50kbps. The only resolution is to reset the network and hope it lasts... seem super ridiculous that the devices (which are a few months old) do this with this frequency and there has been a known issue for > a year with no resolution.

The only reason these exist is to provide connectivity, they fail daily, clearly for many people, and there is no update? What is the DEAL WITH THIS?

I haven't heard a straight answer from Google.  Just generic statements and questions about whether the issue still exists.  Nothing addresses the issues that I, and other people on this thread, have clearly described.  I'm not going to upgrade from my old first gen devices to any newer Google devices until I hear a solid response/explanation as to why my new devices were dropping out constantly.  I returned my new devices quickly after the issues started and I started reading about people having the similar problems.  Do better Google!!

Hi folks,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have and apologies for the delay. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

We know that you’ve already tried other options. It would be a pleasure to help you get through this. Kindly try these steps:

  1. If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Turn off IPv6:
    1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
    2. Tap the Wi-Fi coin  and then Settings Settings.
    3. Scroll down and tap Advanced networking.
    4. Scroll down to IPv6.
    5. Toggle the switch off Toggle button off.
  5. Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  6. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  7. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

You may skip any step that you’ve done already.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

I have modem/router combo from T-Mobile. Their routers don't have such option. Best I could do is to disable WiFi channels.
I had older gen google router before switching to google pro and I had no issues. For the fist half of the year it work fine too...
And now I just switched to nighthawk, so far it works without any issues.

Same here too, whats the status in the bug?

I’m having the same issues and it’s very annoying!  Our google nest wifi mesh was working fine until about a month ago. Now it drops the connection 4 or 5 times a day. I’ve tried everything including resetting all the devices to factory setting and restarting from scratch.  I’m ready to buy something else.  Help!

@Jhonleanmel Any updated on this? It’s most annoying.

Same thing here. Our nest wifi pro points keep disconnecting this month. Multiple times daily.

Same here.  I have stop buying Google hardware products due to their product just don't have the longevity.  Last just enough to pass the warranty period.  Specifically their wifi products.   It seems either their software or their hardware is not tested well.

yeah I will be switching to something else soon. Same deal with my cameras

Ive had the same issue with my Google wifi. Unfortunately my Nest cameras do the same thing

Same thing here! I have 4 Pro nests and every night they disconnect. Some appliances connected to it like wifi sockets, lights, etc, lose connection and then I need to turn off the main energy router and turn it on again to get back to normal. We need Google to fix this. I switched from the old Nest Wifi to the Nest Wifi Pro believing I would have a better experience, but I am disappointed.

Is google/nest going to successfully fix this.   I have 4 wifi pros and am losing connection to them many times a day and the network is shutting down multiple times a day for 30 minutes.   I will be returning to Costco if I don't get resolution in a week

Same problem here. I have to unplug Google nest wifi every day 2-3 time a day.

I’ve been having the same issue for a couple weeks. My wifi disconnects at 10:00 on the dot every night. I haven’t been able to figure out why or how to fix it. Based on the history it goes offline for 4 hours.

I had the issue in early Feb this year.  My solution was to buy a set of Tp-link mesh home network and setup duel networks at home.  If one down, the other will pickup automatically.  This solved my issue.  I guess better to have a fail-over setup at home 😅.

From my very cursory research this seems to me to be a problem with heat dissipation..

Not only does a far away point start to exhibit very high latency with moderate throughput, but the device regularly runs extremely hot..

Mine do this, and it's always in the middle of the night. My phone starts going off letting me know my cameras have been disconnected, waking me up in the process. I have a mesh system, and I have to power cycle the router to restore connections, despite having a perfect connection to my modem. This is bull**bleep**, Google. Get it together before I have to invest in another ecosystem.

@Jhonleanmel CARE TO GIVE US AN UPDATE? IT'S BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS AND EVERYBODY IS STILL HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. These devices are seriously GARBAGE and so is Google's customer service...

Gopigunturu

Same issue with my nest Wi-Fi pro. It is getting disconnected more frequently in the past few weeks.

I've been dealing with this issue on an almost daily basis for about a year with the Google Nest Wifi. I have been considering upgrading to the Pro, but it seems the same issue persists. I contacted Google about the issue that's well documented in the forums, and every time they stated it's not a known issue at the Google support level.

I upgraded to the Google Nest WiFI Pro a few months ago and it drops all my devices 6-7 times per day and I have to reset everything. My printer, Security system, my cameras, my pool equipment- literally everything. I work from home and this is a huge problem. I had the original puck system and it was great! Is there a fix??? This is crazy. I was a huge fan of the puck system, now I am thinking of throwing it in the garbage and going with a new brand. Any suggestions?

I got the nest Wi-Fi pro back in November 2022, it’s now May 2023 and this issue is still not fixed. Just about everyday our devices will randomly disconnect for about 5 minutes. Family is mad at me for “upgrading” our Wi-Fi, but I assumed spending $400 on what I thought was a reputable company was a safe bet. Guess I was wrong 🤦‍♂️

Oh yeah I know what you mean, My issue has been going on for like almost a year now. I actually had to unhook the mesh part of my system to get it to work right lol. It's faster now and more reliable just using the main Google wifi router. Needless to say, I will not be buying another Google router. Or camera either same issues

I wish they just gave you an option to auto restart on some frequency.  It’s a bandaid, but you could set it up to execute over night and it would cause any inconvenience.  Better than dropping work meetings in the middle of the day.

Same here, I’m going to have to replace all my Nest Wifi Pro setup so annoying definitely won’t buy Google next time…

Same here, no solution offered by Google, I never had this problem with my 1st generation Google Wifi... I wish I hadn't upgraded my gear... 😭

I called Google yesterday.  I have 6 Nest Wifi Pros on a Mesh.  I connect the main router to my AT&T fiber.  The contact told me my issue was likely a "Double NAT" issue.  I was able to follow this guide created by Devon Stephens to set my AT&T router to Passthrough, and so far so good.  It's only been a day, but that's better than I've had for a while.  Also my speed tests are waaay up.  I'm hoping this was the issue.
