Hi,

I picked up a Nest Wifi 3-pack a month or so ago, and from a wifi perspective I love it - it's fast and consistent. But the Bluetooth functionality on the access points works questionably at best.

I've paired both my Android phone and my work Mac laptop to one of the access points. The first time I connect, everything works great. Some time later, after I've disconnected, issues begin to manifest: if I *reconnect* then I get absolutely no audio out of the device. It claims to be playing - I can adjust the volume in the Home app on my Android phone, it correctly shows that music is playing from my Mac and I can pause it from the app, but I don't get any audio out of it whatsoever. Once it's in this state it won't play any audio from *any* device; I've tried disconnecting my Mac and connecting my phone, and it's still muted. (It does, however, play the little jingle noting that it's connected or disconnected from a device, so it isn't _completely_ muted.)

I realize that "some time later" is vague at best, but I don't have an exact timeframe for repro here. I've only tried using the speaker three or four times, with several days between each attempt; the devices (phone, laptop) have been put to sleep and/or have left the room with the access point in the meantime, but I've been careful to disconnect them first. But each time after the first that I tried using the BT speaker functionality, I've had to reboot the access point in order to actually get any audio out of it.

If I reboot it from the Home app, it starts working again.

System firmware version 180404
Cast firmware version 1.42.180404
Model H2E
Additionally I keep the microphone muted.

Hi,

Welcome to the Google Nest Wifi Help Community!

Thank you for reaching out! I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused so far. Could you tell me what are the steps you tried doing already? Do you mind doing these suggested steps?

1. Unplug your Google Nest Wifi point and turn OFF the microphone switch on the back of it, wait for 1 to 2 minutes then plug it back in.
2. If the issue persist, try these additional steps.
  • From the Google home app, select your phone on the device list and “unpair” it.
  • Forget your Google Nest Wifi on your phone's Bluetooth settings.
  • Close Google Home app (and your music app if it’s open).
  • Open the Google home app and “enable pairing mode”.
  • Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings select the Google Nest Wifi point to be pair to it.
  • Once done, check if that would work.
Hope this helps.

All the best,

I have had a related issue. My new nest wifi access point will randomly disconnect from my Bose Bluetooth speakers. Frequently they will spontaneously reconnect, with audible notification, sometime later. I have never had it stay connected for more than an hour or so, usually, it disconnects sooner than that.  I have tried all of the recommendations, resetting Bluetooth connections on both speakers and the access point several times, I even reset the nest wifi point completely.  I have tried multiple Bluetooth speakers from other manufacturers and the access point exhibits the same behavior with all of them. Moreover, none of my other devices ever spontaneously disconnect from them. My workaround has been to turn off the mic on my wifi access point use an OLD (3+ years?) google assistant for "assistant functions" and from which to stream music to my speakers. It works perfectly. I have read a ton of similar reports and to date have found no solution. There is clearly a problem with them.

Hey, EdMcNic.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your bluetooth connections. I'm sure that's been frustrating. Let's see what is going on and come up with a solution.

Thanks for letting me know what you've already done and tried. I do have a few questions that might help us narrow things down a bit more.

  • All access points are having the same drop issue, right?
  • Do you have any other devices connected via bluetooth to the points, or is it just the one speaker in question (and the others you tested with)?
  • Do you have your points set up in a speaker group through Home?

Just a bit more detail and I'm sure we can figure this one out. I look forward to hearing back.

Thanks.
