Nest Wifi point needs activation

cappyfield
Community Member

Pretty frustrated. Setting up a Nest Wifi out of a factory sealed box and not my first Google mesh network. Router is up and running, but both Wifi points say they need to be activated.

The help center link provided only talks about TV.

Forum search reveals people talking about a "device utility" app in the Play Store, but when I search for that Google Home is the only result.

What exactly are the necessary steps to activate my brand new wifi points?

And yes, I've rebooted them and my Pixel 5a.

See following blog post about it:

I don't work for Google.

Thanks for the link. Ended up chatting with tech and they have been less than helpful, just stepping through the steps that I already know don't work. That the Device Utility app is missing from the Play store was news to them. So far, no solution.

Hey, cappyfield.

Sorry about the issues you're seeing on setup here. That sounds really confusing and frustrating. Would you mind telling me where in the process it tells you that the activation is required? Are you able to start the setup process at all?

Thanks.

Google Home will find the points, but that's where the process halts with the activation process. The usual next step would be to scan the QR code, but that doesn't happen.

Thanks for the input there, Wonderbeef.

If you do have access to a second device, it's worth trying to perform setup with that. Be it iOS or Android, sometimes swapping devices is the quick fix to getting around the issue. It's definitely worth a try.

Thanks.

Had the same problem from my Pixel 6. Setting up the point on an iPad (within Home app) worked. My guess is Pixels can't use their original communication method because of the Sonos ruling, hence the vague allusions to using a TV. This is incredibly frustrating

Thanks all. My final solution was to return the set as defective (thanks Amazon) a 2-pack of Nest routers. These have set up flawlessly.

Sounds good, cappyfield. I'm happy to hear you found resolution on this.

Before I mark this as resolved, is there anything else you might need here?

Thanks,

- Jeff

Hi, everyone.

Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

Thanks,
