Nest wifi pro: Only half of internet bandwith is used

Georg

Hello,

I have 1 Gbit connection from my internet provider (Vodafone, Germany) and Fritzbox a a router. Previosly I had Google Wifi, first generation. Measurement of internet speed using google home app, brought always about 850 Mbit/s,

Sinse yesterday I have Nest Wifi Pro.  If I test internet speed with new Nest Wifi Pro using Google Home app and in browser on my phone, then it shows always about 450 Mbit/s. Everything works fine except the limiting of internet bandwith.

I searched for settings in google home app, but have nothing found. Is it a hardware defect or may be there is possibility to set the bandwith in nest wifi pro?

The nest wifi is connected directly to the fritbox router. Nothing changed in my home network except of replaced google wifi by nest wifi pro.

Thank you

An Update, I have two pieces of nest wifi pro. I exchanged them, without any improvment. I guess, it is not a hardware problem. I'm getting still only 450-550 Mbit internet speed, each time I test come different values out. My pc connected to the same fritzbox router measures 950Mbit. Is it the max speed, it has ya 1 Gbit port. According to the  specs.

Second Update: I connected PC to the Nest Wifi Pro and ran speed test of my internet provider using browser, it comes out about 750 Mbit.

And I found a message here in community, it seems, that the build in speed test is brocken and I guess not only that. The bandwith is still 75% of the possible.  I am a little bit disappointed, that 5 year old goolge wifi manages to achieve  better connection then new "pro" version.

Hey Georg,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Please confirm if you’ve done all the steps below:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

Hello AbigailF,

You probably overlooked my first replay.  As I mentioned in my first replay, there seems to be a bug in the build in speed test. Look for example for this thread  https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Confusing-speed-test-results-with-Nest-WiFi-Pro/m-p...

Your standard advices for troubleshooting cannot help. Because the speed test is running directly on that nest wifi pro device. Wifi connection does not matter in this case. If I connect my PC directly to the nest wifi pro using cable, then I achive 75-85% of full speed, possible from my provider.

You can close this thread, I found my answers.

Thanks

Georg

If you haven't already, try disabling "Preferred Activities" in your network settings. Contrary to the documentation, this feature seems to have a negative impact on other services even when you are not using one of the preferred services.
