I have a google home system and i want to allow ports 7000-7500 on my local System. I have a Ethernet to my google home wifi which is connected to our modem router system. I attempted to port forward the google home Lan address(192.168.86.1) not WAN (i allowed ports 7000-7500 in that port forward). I then went to the google home system and allowed my system Lan address (192.168.x.x) with the associated ports. I would assume i made a direct tunnel for these ports to go from the Modem router -> google -> my system but when checking the ports it does not seem like it has worked. How do I port forward/what am i doing wrong

Hey @SunBroJonik .
Is the "modem router" you note being used as just a modem or is it being used as a modem and router?

It's being used as a modem and router. Our isp set it up and roommate didn't care for my Google system, I needed a Lan connection to my pc

Thanks for the additional info, @SunBroJonik .
The port forwarding isn't working because you have two devices trying to route the same traffic and creating a Double NAT situation. The only way to run a separate network is with either a modem only device and two routers using separate connections to the modem or have two separate services coming into the home; the former will cause bandwidth issues and the latter will be more expensive.

Thank you! Saw someone have a similar issue but didn't know if it was just a WAN thing. Thought I could avoid disabling the router if I just forwarded the LAN ports.

Hey SunBroJonik,
It looks like with PatrickP_Viking's help you were able to find a solution for this. I just wanted to check in and see if you needed anything else here or to see if you were all set. If there's more we can do, just let us know.
Thanks,
Jeff
