Speed drop at second puck

MicNeo
Community Member

Hey all,

Here is my setup. I've ATT fiber 300. I started by connecting the first puck to the modem. Tested WiFi, works great, get over 300Mbps download. Then I connected the second puck, I tested the speed and it gets at best 140-150Mbps. My first thought was, that maybe it is too far away (even though it was in the next room).  So I moved the second puck ~2 feet away from the main one (no obstacles in between) and tested it again. Same results. I tried factory reset, switching pucks (the one that was the main one became the second, etc). No difference.

I saw different topics regarding that, is there any solution for that other than hardwiring these two pucks?

Hi MicNeo,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with the speed of your Google Wifi. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What is the result of the speed test if you run it while connected directly to your ISP modem?
  • What speed test are you using? Have you tried doing it directly from the Google Home app?
  • What's the result of the mesh test?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

1) above 300mbps

2) i use Google internet speed test, but home app shows similar results

3) mesh test says that everything works great

Hi MicNeo,

Thanks for the response. Does the speed go back to around 300 Mbps if you disconnect the second point? Also, what's your approximate home lot area?

Thanks,

Edward

Like I said in my first post. If I connect to the first point, I have full speed. Disconnecting the second point doesn't change anything, as far as I'm connected to the first one.

Also, the first point is ~2 feet away from the second one. In the same room, no obstacles.

Hi MicNeo,

Thanks for the response and I'm sorry for the confusion. To isolate the issue, let's try changing the DNS servers and toggle cloud services. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi > Settings > Advanced Networking.
  3. Tap DNS.
  4. Select Custom and enter “8.8.8.8” and “8.8.4.4”.
  5. Tap Save.

To enable Nest Wifi Cloud services, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi > Settings.
  3. Tap Privacy Settings.
  4. Toggle Nest Wifi cloud services on or off, then tap Save.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Edward
