Suitable new modem/router

Hi, I am giving up my Sky Fibre Broadband service as it is too expensive. I will be switching to a provider that doesn't include a free router/modem so will have to buy one myself.

Can I use any router/modem? I assume I don't actually need a wi-fi router as the wi-fi part will be switched off to accomodtate the Google nest points (I have five in my old house)

Is there something I need to look out for? I was looking at getting a TP-Link router (AX1500 or similar) as it seems quite cheap and I have one at work. Any reason not to use this? Is a dedicated modem better?

Any advice on what to (not) buy here in the UK?

Many thanks, Liam.

To be clear, the router is what your Google home is acting as...you do NOT need a router , you need a modem, and this question should be asked of the new ISP as the modem would need to be compatible with their network.

I have Verizon Fios, and while the download speed is decent, the upload speed isn’t great. I’m using Google Nest Wi-Fi, but I’m not sure if the issue is with the router, my Nest setup, or the connection itself. Has anyone else experienced this with Nest devices on Fios? I expected better speeds.

You haven't confirmed if you are using an ONT box or your phone connection, if you are using an ONT box (the little box that the fibre cable goes into which has a lan port to connect to your router) then you may be able to just use Nest Wi-Fi Pro plugged directly into that, that's what I'm using now with BT as my provider, you would choose PPPoE for the connection type and then use the username/password which would likely be available either from your provider or from their support forums.
