Support for bridge mode and mesh network

Lebesgue
Community Member

Hi,

is anyone aware whether support for mesh network whilst in bridge mode is work in progress? Alternative do we have formal statement saying it will not be supported?

Like-wise any word/update on VLAN tagging.

Whilst I am altogether quite please with my 2 Nest routers and 4 WiFi pucks in particular the lack of bridge mode/mesh network is a huge limitation and very annoying (trying) to work around.

Hello @Lebesgue

I haven't heard about support for bridge mode with mesh coming, but I don't know that anyone would hear about it while it was in progress. From what I know about how the system works, though, I would be a little surprised to see them do this because of how the spanning tree protocol is used (the primary unit has to be the root of the spanning tree, so in a bridge mode, you could have multiple units "fighting" over who gets to be the highest priority bridge). I don't expect a formal statement that it won't be supported, either, though – they could conceivably do a bunch of engineering to make it work (I just don't think they will).

What VLAN feature are you looking for?

For both of these, the "feedback" feature in the Google Home app is still the best way to get a request like this in to the product team.
