WIFI speeds on wireless devices are slow

My internet speeds on wifi connected devices are always slow. I reset the network and then the speed improves for a short time and gradually slows. I have a wired switch connected to GOOGLE router and the internet speeds on the wire network are always exceptional. The router is about 5 years old is it time to replace it ? if so and i replace the router to i need to re building my entire google home environment, ie connecting all my smart devices etc?

I want to make sure you've factory reset your Google Wifi correctly based on this article. If not, please go ahead and run through the steps before configuring your device again.
