google wifi with BT smart hub 2

This is probably aimed more at any UK users floating around but I am with BT and being "upgraded" to their digital voice service (VOIP) which requires use of the smart hub 2. I have never used the supplied hub from BT and currently have a google wifi gen 1 setup with the open reach modem plugged straight into the first google wifi puck and then a mesh of another 4 backhauled via ethernet.

I don't really want to disrupt this setup any more than I have to and wondered if any community member had managed to get their google wifi working correctly through the smart hub 2 so they can use their VOIP phone with the BT DV service?

If so how did you do it? I have seen this thread on the BT forums but am keen to see if anyone has it working and how.

thanks!

Hi @deeebee,

I hope you're having a great day. Thank you so much for your post. I understand you want to keep your current network, but when upgrading your modem (especially one provided by your ISP), it's usually necessary to set up your Google mesh network again, just to let you know this process will remove your current mesh system and you need to set up the devices again. I'm here to help!

Here are the steps that you need to follow to delete your current network from your Google Home app:

  • Factory reset WiFi devices
  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Go to "favorites."
  • Tap in ''WiFi''
  • Look for ''network settings''
  • Click in the ''factory reset entire network'' option.

With these steps, you will remove the current network and set up the devices again with the new modem, just in case you decide to upgrade the modem and use the Smart Hub 2. If this new Smart Hub 2 acts like a modem or router, it is possible to connect the Google WiFi devices following the previously mentioned steps.

To be completely sure about if the devices are compatible, I recommend you get in contact with the manufacturer of the Smart Hub 2 and ask for compatibility with the Google devices.

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Lusvin

Hi @lusvin,

Really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I did contact BT and they said to contact google as they will not support specific products.

I was hoping someone would have been through this already and I could leverage their experience. I'm probably going to just leave the network as is for now and not bother with the smart hub 2 as I know it will cause issues with the mesh if I put it inbetween the google puck and the internet.

thanks again
