I have checked with my iPhone (Apple) and my internet carrier, but there is no resolution. When I look at "settings" on my phone, it indicates that Wi-Fi is connected, but when I try to connect to Nest, I get a 'no connectivity' message.

The reason you're not getting the best out of your internet connection can get complicated sometimes, but let's see what's going on.
Which Wi-Fi device are you currently using? Since you mentioned having Bluetooth on as well, have you set up your device in the Google Home app, or does it still need to be set up?
If you've already set up your router and are looking to connect to the internet, what are your results when you perform a speed test? You can use this internet speed test guide to improve your internet connection to test the speed.
It's important to double-check that the wires in your setup aren't damaged if you have a fully wired connection.
