Can’t complete Matter setup for Yale Lock (YRD510-MT1-BLK) with Google Home on iPhone + Nest Mini

Description:

I’m having trouble connecting my Yale smart lock (YRD510-MT1-BLK, Matter version) to Google Home using my iPhone (iOS 18&26). Setup always stops with the message:

“Additional setup required.”

My setup:

  • Yale Matter-enabled lock (YRD510-MT1-BLK)
  • iPhone running iOS 18
  • Google Nest Mini (active Matter controller)
  • Eero 6+ mesh (PV6 network)
  • Google Home app (latest version)

What I’ve tried:

  • Verified lock and Google Home app firmware are up to date
  • Attempted setup via Add device → Matter device → Scan QR
  • Restarted router, confirmed 2.4 GHz availability, moved closer
  • Reset lock and reinstalled Google Home app
  • Tested bridges/hubs (Level Connect, Matter Hub) → confirmed not needed

Issue:

Google Home detects the lock but fails to complete setup — always stops at “Additional setup required.”

Questions:

  1. Is Nest Mini + iPhone enough to act as a full Matter controller for Yale locks?
  2. Is there a known fix for this “Additional setup required” loop?
  3. Does the Yale YRD510-MT1-BLK have any current Matter compatibility issues with Google Home?

Hi JsnLutz,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you're trying to connect your new Yale Smart Lock (Matter version, model YRD510-MT1-BLK) to Google Home using your iPhone (on iOS 18/26), but the process keeps stopping with the message: 'Additional setup required.' I appreciate all the troubleshooting steps you've already done, and I'd be glad to help you with the information you need!

The Yale Smart Lock (YRD510-MT1-BLK) requires a Matter-enabled hub with a built-in Thread border router to be fully set up and function correctly on the Google Home app, especially for remote access.

To ensure your Yale Smart Lock connects properly and you can access all features, you must have a compatible Google device that acts as a Thread border router in your home. This device allows the lock to communicate with Google Home. Compatible devices are:

  • Google TV Streamer (4K)
  • Nest Hub (2nd gen)
  • Nest Wifi Pro
  • Nest Hub Max

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to post them on this forum.

Sincerely,
Juan
