Cannot add guest to Nest Yale Lock

Splooter
Community Member

I am unable to add a guest to the Nest Yale lock. When I go to add a guest in the Nest app it simply says "Something went wrong." This has been an issue for over a year.

How do I fix this? I'm about to dump all my Google/Nest products because I'm basically over how poorly they work since shifting from Nest to Google Home.

Hi Splooter,

I’m sorry you’re having issues with the Nest x Yale Lock. I understand your concern about your device not working as it should, and I appreciate your reports here in the Community.

I'd love to dig deeper into this issue. Have you tried switching your mobile device from Wi-Fi to mobile data? Did you try to use another device to add a guest?

Let's try to check first if the Nest app has any available updates.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Check for any iOS or Android updates.
  2. Uninstall the Nest app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the app.
  3. Try to add a guest again.

Let me know how it goes.

All the best,

Lance

That solution does not work.

Which app are you specifically  referencing @Lance_L ? Because you mention Google Home, but the article references the Nest app, and typically, or traditionally, guests were added in the Nest app. The Google Home app requires you invite someone via email, but for the Nest Yale you were able to just add a name and a temp code for them without having to invite them into the ecosystem.

Hey Splooter,

Good catch! Apologies for the mistake; I meant the Nest app. I have updated the steps above; were you able to perform them? If yes, how was it?

Regards,

Lance

The solution of switching from wifi to mobile data on the nest app to add a user does not work at all.

I too have this problem, I cannot add a guest via the Nest App. I have updated my iPhone to the latest iOS patch 17.3 and i uninstalled then reinstalled the Nest App. I still get the same error  "Something went wrong. Please try that again." I have the Yale lock and a Nest Connect devices. I've also changed the batteries in my lock as they were getting low, so I have fresh batteries. What else can I do to fix? I have 3 new guests I need to add to my account as they are new tenants to my office space. Thanks

hello - thought I'd follow up and let everyone know what worked for me. I had previously troubleshot the Nest Connect, my gut kept telling me the problem was there. I am not 100% sure, but I think I reset the Nest to default and then re-added the network settings. I say not 100% sure because I re-added the network settings numerous times but I did a long hold on the rest button that I think resets it to default. In any case, after testing numerous times one of my reboot/resets/ network settings re-add did the trick. I just kept at the Nest Connect because I felt that was where the issue was and it turned out to be the case. I've had issues before with the Nest Connect, this would be the 2nd time now.  I now have another, different issue - I bought a Google Indoor Nest 2nd Gen camera and again, I'm wasting my time as there seems to be no way to adopt this camera into my account - it's unbelievable how the Nest system seems to have been destroyed by Google since the acquisition. So at the moment I've wasted just under $200 on cameras that seem to be incapable of being used - how can a company get away with this?

Hello folks,

@Samster26, thanks for circling back and sharing your resolution with the Community. We’re delighted that you were able to find a solution, despite the initial challenges.

For the new Nest Cam (wired), this device should be added to the Google Home app. You can check out this guide to help you set up and connect a Nest camera.

Let me know how it goes.
