Empty battery when your camera is hardwired

  • How do you charge a nest cam battery when your phone says "empty battery"? Also, why does it need to be charged since it's hard wired???

That should not happen. We've had a battery camera for 23 months, plugged in with the optional power cable, and it's been "Live", online, and charged the whole time.

Are you using one of the optional power cables? Some customers have reported problems trying to power their camera with the 1-meter charging cord that comes with the camera.

Is your USB plug seated securely in the bottom of the camera? Some customers have reported problems getting a good contact with their USB plug, or even having their USB plug fall apart.

Is your power cable plugged in feeding towards the FRONT of the camera? It looks awkward, but that's the way it works.

Did you have your camera plugged into power during the install, or specify during the install that it was going to be plugged in? It seems you need to do one of these, or you have to remove the camera, do a factory reset, and reinstall it.

Is there power to the outlet where your camera is plugged in?  For one customer, there wasn't.

When you check your battery in the Google Home app, it should always say "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol as long as the camera is plugged in and connected to power. When we've unplugged our camera to check the battery level, it's always been between 77% and 100%.
