Key pad responsiveness

HariH

Have been using the lock for over 3 years. Lately, the key pad is unresponsive during some part of the day (mostly mid to late afternoon). Still able to lock/unlock using IOS app when keypad is not functioning.

Much better response after the battery change. Maybe a battery health check option will be helpful.

The battery replacement solved the problem. Still curious as why there was no low battery alert.

Hi HariH,

Thanks for visiting the Community. I'm sorry to hear that and for the delayed response. Let's sort this out. What's the status light of your Nest x Yale lock's keypad? When did the issue start? Are the batteries fresh and they're the standard AA alkaline batteries? Also, is the privacy mode on?

Give these steps a try:

  • Restart your lock:
  1. Insert the key/thumbtack into the hole on top of the battery compartment. Press down firmly.
  2. As you continue to press down with the key/thumbtack, grip the cover near the top and then pull it off.
  3. Remove one battery. Wait 20 seconds. Then, put the battery back in.
  • Low or drained batteries can cause your lock's keypad to go unresponsive. Replace your lock's batteries.
  • Turn off your privacy mode if it's on.
  • If all else fails, factory reset your lock to its default settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

Hi there,

Sounds good! The Nest app and your lock will let you know when the batteries are getting low, so you’ll have plenty of time to change them before they’re drained. You’ll see a Low battery or Very low battery message on the lock screen. When the battery is very low, the lock button will also change from white to yellow.

Give us a shout if you have any questions.

Best,

JT

I am very happy to hear that your battery being replaced fixed the issue for you! Sorry to hear that you never received a low battery alert in the first place. We'll keep this thread open for a little longer for follow-up questions or concerns. Thank you for all of your patience!
