New ADT+ Security System

So I finally called today to order this free ADT system and once I ordered I was able to setup my ADT account.   It came to the part where I could link my Google products and the only thing that appeared was my thermostat and the cameras were blank.   I went back in to make sure permissions were correct and down at the bottom I see the following   Unsupported devices: Google Nest Cam IQ Indoor, Google Nest Cam Indoor, Google Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, Google Nest Cam Outdoor, and Google Nest Hello.

So we spend hundreds of dollars on cameras and a security system and door locks only to find that it isn’t supported on this new bull**bleep** system we have to buy.  What a huge slap in the face and I hope a class action lawsuit is started because this is absolutely ridiculous.   How about you just leave **bleep** alone!   I went with Google because everything worked together but I see that is now all coming to an end.

My guess is that the server load to maintain all of the recordings, as well as everything else was beyond what they had originally anticipated, and they want to dump the servers as well as limit their liability by using ADT as a front man for the hardware.  I'm not sure what their legal exposure was with running security, but it must have been a bear of a portfolio to manage.  Behind the scenes there may have been some limitations with the Nest hardware/software/integrations they inherited when they swallowed that company, and they want it out of their product suite.  Who knows what really is going on though?  There's no transparency or communication on the topic.

Not sure if ADT offered to cut them a deal or anything, but they certainly got the short end of the stick because ADT is making them look like yeehaws with piss poor product and epically bad customer service.  Android is already getting squeezed out of the marketplace, and they've racked up hardware failure after hardware failure internally with stuff like Glass.  Beyond G-Suite and chromebooks they don't really have a captive user base, and this is only going to do more to drive their narrow product loyalist base to cut their losses and jump ship.  I keep waiting to see some sort of competent damage control or mea culpa on this, and instead it looks like radio silence while they drive their brand reputation off a cliff.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the delay. While we don't have the specifics, our friends at the ADT support team are the best team to help you find out the compatibility of their device with Nest devices.

Regards,

Juni

Any updates on the first gen cameras gaining access to ADT+?

Nobody at Google, Nest or ADT will talk any specifics with you.  That would prevent you from trying the ADT service, which is nothing next to Nest.  I took the ADT offer from Google, after talking to all of their customer services and self-installed ADT.  I noticed it knew my cameras were there but would not show anything other than black rectangles with the camera's names. Calling the ADT customer service number for self-installs resulted in them checking everything I had done and then telling me I could by Nest's new cameras from Google and they would work. I asked if they would replace the old wires built into my house for the Nest IQ cameras or provide me with a 22' ladder to access their/Nest's battery run camera's?  They said sorry.  They genuinely seemed to understand how bad Google is screwing us.

Finally, since the tech press isn't picking this up, I don't think things will change. They don't want to offend Google by revealing the truth.

I totally agree. We've purchased Google products for my house and my son's house and now they are all useless. Google needs to make this right. I think they are going to lose a lot of customers because of this. I would be happy to sign a petition to start a class action lawsuit against them.

I just had the same situation and reaction.  The ADT app looks like it's 5 plus years old not to mention the size of their door and motion sensors.  Holy 1990 Batman.  The Nest sensors were elegant and well thought out.  Come on Google you sank millions into the ADT dinosaur, at least let them use your sensors.  Even at free it's too expensive.  I guess it's Ring or Simplysafe for me.
