Unlock notifications no longer show who unlocked the door

The unlock notifications I'm getting are no longer showing who unlocked my Nest Yale lock. When I first installed it, the notification would state "XXX unlocked the front door" and now it only says that the "front door was unlocked. It wasn't all at once but happened over a few months.

Anybody know what I might have done to cause this to happen or how I can fix it?

I have a similar question I think anyway.

I just had ADT Home Security Installed and I am wondering first if each User has the ability to Delete or Modify the captured information on all Devices or just their Device when they choose to perform an action off the recieved Feed from a Camera, second which User has the final authority to make changes to thd Security App,, third is there a wzy to give Authority to one single User and remove that control from all others and finally is there a Report created anywhere that Logs which Users had made which changes to the system as well the time and date? When one User Deletes a File when on their Device does this Delete that File from all Users Devices? I may create a new Post for this incase it is too unrelated. Not sure.

Hi @GBD,

First I would like to thank you for posting in our community page, on the other hand I apologize for the inconvenience that you are having with your Nest x Yale lock Let me tell you some troubleshooting steps that you can try to fix the problem.

you're absolutely right, it's annoying that your Nest Yale lock notifications don't show who unlocked the door anymore. Here's the information you need to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

Possible Reasons:

There are a few reasons why this functionality might have stopped working:

  • App Update Bug: An update to the Nest app might have introduced a bug affecting how unlock notifications display usernames.
  • Nest Lock Setting Change: There could be a setting within the Nest app controlling the detail level in unlock notifications (less likely).
  • Nest Account Permissions: In rare cases, permission issues within your Nest account might prevent user information from appearing in notifications.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Here are some things you can try to get user names back in your notifications:

App and Nest Lock Updates:

  • Nest App: Ensure you're using the latest version of the Nest app on your phone/device. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.
  • Nest Lock Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your Nest Yale lock itself. Updates can address compatibility issues with the Nest app.

Nest App Notification Settings:

  • Look for any settings within the Nest app related to lock notifications. See if there's an option to control the level of detail displayed (like usernames).

Reinstall Nest App:

  • In some cases, reinstalling the Nest app can resolve temporary glitches affecting notifications. Remember to log back in to your Nest account after reinstalling.

Regards,

Mario.

Hi @gooshimin,

That's a great question! Here's how ADT's user permissions typically work for your home security system:

User Permissions and File Deletion:

  • Limited User Control: In most ADT setups, individual users typically can't delete or modify captured information (videos or images) from all devices. They can usually only manage recordings associated with actions they trigger themselves (e.g., manually activating a camera view).
  • Master User Control: The master user (often the account holder) usually has broader permissions to manage recordings. This might include deleting or modifying clips from any device within the system.

Security App Authority:

  • Master User Authority: The master user typically has the final say in making changes to the security app settings. This includes adding/removing users, managing access codes, and configuring system parameters.

Assigning Single User Authority:

  • Limited Functionality: While there isn't a way to grant complete control to a single user and remove it from everyone else, some ADT systems might allow assigning specific user roles with varying levels of permission. However, a master user with overall control is usually still necessary.

Change Logs and User Activity:

  • Audit Logs (Available in some Systems): Some ADT systems offer audit logs that track user activity within the app. These logs might record actions like user logins, system changes, or deletions of recordings (with details like username, timestamp, etc.). However, the availability of audit logs and their level of detail can vary depending on the specific ADT system and plan you have.

File Deletion Impact:

  • Device-Specific Deletion: When a user deletes a file on their device (phone or tablet), it typically only removes it from that specific device. The recording might still be stored on the main ADT system or on other user devices with access.

New Post? Up to You!

This topic is directly related to home security systems, so it fits well here. However, if you want to create a separate post focusing solely on ADT user permissions, that's perfectly fine too!

Here are some additional tips:

  • You can check your specific ADT user manual or contact ADT customer support for details on user permissions and functionalities within your particular system.
  • Some ADT systems might offer more granular user permission options through their web portal compared to the mobile app.

I hope this information helps!

Regards,

Mario.
