help adding 4th access point to existing pack of 3 on wifi pro 6e.

I have configured and set up Nest Wi-Fi Pro at home (pack of three). Everything works well, except when I try to add a fourth Wi-Fi Pro, I get the error "couldn't connect to the mesh network."

I have done the following:

1- upgrade the wifi points

2- factory reset the fourth point

3- restart the whole network

Please advise.

Hi there!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been experiencing with your WiFi Pro. I understand that you already have a setup, and when trying to add this fourth device to your network, you are also getting an error message that says “Couldn’t connect to the mesh network." No worries, help is here.

In order to give you the correct troubleshooting steps, I need some extra information. Then here I send you some questions for you:

  • What’s the light color on the unit?
  • What is the make and model of your mobile phone?
  • What is the model of the device that you are not able to add to your network?
  • What is the distance between the main router and the child device?
  • Do you have any switches in your network setup?
  • Did you try to set up the points wirelessly or through a wired connection?

In the meantime, you can try the next troubleshooting steps:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home App.
  • Ensure that the child point isn’t connected to an upstream router or switch.
  • Perform a 2-minute power cycle.
    • Disconnect the modem from its power source.
    • Unplug the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
    • Remove the power cord from the child point.
    • Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
      • Start a timer to track.
      • Check the make and model of the modem, and make sure there isn't a backup battery. If there’s a backup battery, ask the customer to remove the battery; otherwise, it won't perform a power cycle.
    • Connect the power cable to the modem and allow the modem to fully turn on before proceeding. This process can take up to a minute.
      • All light indicators should be solid colors.
      • Connect the Ethernet cable, then the power cable, to the parent point. Wait until the modem is fully back online.
    • Connect the power cable to the child point(s).

After the 2-minute power cycle, try to add or set up the parent or child point.

Please check the following articles: Fix your Google Nest WiFi or Google WiFi network for further information.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

Thanks, Daniel,

here are answers to your questions.

  • What’s the light color on the unit? pulsing blue
  • What is the make and model of your mobile phone? Google home app is installed on iPhone 12 and then I tried iPad (got same experience)
  • What is the model of the device that you are not able to add to your network? not sure if the question is relevant to my issue but I am trying to add a new access point (nest wifi pro) to the network.
  • What is the distance between the main router and the child device? I tried the following: side-by-side, clear-view 1 meter, 4 meters, and 6 meters.
  • Do you have any switches in your network setup? No, have a firewall between the modem and router (existing 3-pack mesh with no issue)
  • Did you try to set up the points wirelessly or through a wired connection? I tried both and got the same issue.

I called the support and with the technition on the call did te following steps:

1- factory reset on the new access point

2- 2-minute power cycle

3- installed google home app on iPad and tried to add the new access point

I got the same error at the end that the access point can't connect to the mesh.

Hi gfatnest,

Thanks for your reply.

I appreciate all the information you provided. It helps us narrow down why your Nest Pro WiFi point isn't pairing to your app.

Since you've already tried a factory reset, I suggest disabling some settings on your iOS devices. This might help the pairing process. You can try the following:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select General.
  • Select VPN & Device Management. If you have a VPN enabled, disable it.

Disable Private Relay as well by:

  • Select your name.
  • Tap iCloud.
  • Select Private Relay.
  • Toggle the slider to turn it off.

Please try these steps and let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Angel.

Hi once again, gfatnest,

Thanks for following the steps. Let's keep going until your point is set up correctly.

To ensure a smooth pairing process, I recommend forgetting any nearby networks on your iOS device if you have any registered. It would be ideal if you could also forget the setup network you used for your other points.

With that in mind, I suggest turning on local network access on the iOS device you're using for the setup. You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Bluetooth and make sure it's enabled.
  3. Go back to Settings.
  4. Tap Privacy > Local Network.
  5. Toggle Google Home on.

After making these changes, Restart your iOS device and then try to pair your point again.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angel.
