Advertisements playing, despite being Youtube Premium user.

Uriah
Community Member

Hello, for the past few weeks, Advertisements have begun playing on my Google Home Max, despite being a Youtube Premium user. I'll ask Google to play music on the device or group of living room devices, then after one song it will start playing an Advertisement...

I've confirmed my Google Home app is still set to use YouTube Music service to play from.
I've confirmed my subscription is very much still active, I've been sub'd for years to Google Music which gave me YT Red, which now turned into the YT Premium which Youtube Music uses.

yt
Can you tell me why I'm getting ads on Youtube Music through my nest device now? It's this how the paid service works or is something misconfigured?

Hey folks,

My apologies for the lack of updates on this. Quite a few of you have been having troubles getting advertisements on Premium YouTube Music accounts when playing music on Google Home/Nest devices. Thank you to everyone who updated this thread with details on what you're experiencing.

To help the team further to look into this, if you could send feedback from your Google Home/Nest device using the keywords, "GHT3 Getting Ads when playing YouTube music on <ei. Nest Hub Max>" that would be great. Within your feedback report, feel free to detail what's been happening, your location and the firmware version of your device. For instructions on how to send feedback, check this out.

I know some of you already provided the information above within the forum post and this will be shared with the team, but having this information included in the fresh feedback sent from your device is very important.

I'll hop back on this thread once I have some more details to share.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey folks,

No new updates to share for now but rest assured that the team is looking into this issue at hand. For those users who haven't send feedback, please do so by follow the steps below:

1. Turn on device usage data and crash reports:

  1. Open the Google Home app
  2. Select the speaker/display device card
  3. At the top-right, select Settings and then Recognition and sharing.
  4. Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)

Note: For iOS devices, turn on Send device usage and crash reports.

2. Reproduce the issue (play YouTube music) then after the issue occurred, immediately send feedback from the Nest Hub Max device by saying "OK Google, send feedback" then say the feedback keyword "GHT3 Getting Ads when playing YouTube music on <ei. Nest Hub Max>"

Let me know once they're done.

Buzzing in — do you still need our help? Don't hesitate to reach back if you do.

I know that there have been several posts about this, and people have been posting about it for at least 3 years now, but apparently Google doesn't give a flying poop about actually fixing this issue as I can't seem to find any solutions in any of the threads, and for some reason the threads have been closed to replies which is stupid considering there hasn't been a solution, but apparently Google just doesn't care so that's why they're probably suppressing this and not trying to find a real solution. Anytime I ask my Google speaker to play YouTube videos it says that there are options displayed on my TV screen, and those options are not there. This has happened with every Chromecast I bought which is three of them now, and they only work displaying the options for maybe a month or two when I first get a new one and then suddenly it goes away. I've done all the resets, I've updated the firmware etc, and nothing works. When is Google going to get real and stop bsing us and give a real solution to this issue? It's getting really old and I'm really seriously considering jumping Chromecast and going for a fire stick or some other alternative casting device because this is bull 💩

I have the same issue. Yet I cannot contact anyone ro resolve this. I cancelled my yt premium only to have them continue to bill me. So I cancelled my credit card and they sent nearly one years worth of service to a collection agency illegally lowering my credit score and there is absolutely no way to contact them for resolution. The only number I found was automated, I spent 45 minutes bouncing around and finally got a live rep, o ly to have them tell me I had the wrong department and they are unable to assist me in directing me to the proper department or even provide me with a link or phone number to billing or conflict resolution. I'm currently in the process of beginning litigation due to this being the only way to resolve the issue. It is absurd. There is no reason this should occur. I wish you luck my friend, but beware of their seedy tactics they employ.

We have 2 minis and 2 nest hubs.

If you ask Google to play music it works fine on the minis but the nest hubs play ads as it doesn't recognize that I have a premium account. I can resolve this by casting music from my phone instead of asking Google but that's super annoying.

If it continues then subscribing to YouTube premium or owning nest hubs are not worth the money.

Hello folks,

@Uriah, @Camilleris1, I’m sorry to hear that advertisements are still playing despite having a YouTube Premium subscription. Could you click this link to set up Digital Wellbeing. Once open, check your restrictions and other troubleshooting steps that can help.

Keep me posted.

that would be great, how can you assist those of us who have 1 member with no ads and the other with ads between ever song, despite paying family plan.....which is going up now as well

Thank you for following up. I have not gone back to premium since I posted this and you can close this. I do not need assistance and I do not believe I ever will. You being made aware was already accomplished and I have done my due diligence. Thank you for your dedication as a person and thank you to the developers for putting out an otherwise quality product. It is unfortunate that business cannot prioritize and publicly address paid ad failures but every time you receive feedback this becomes more likely at some future date.

I haven't found a solution that works yet, and no there's the new issue of my smart light bulbs not changing color anymore and Google being shady and mansplaining "actually Google doesn't support that function". I followed a few instructions I read through these forums on how to fix that issue, and it did fix some of my smart light bulbs but not my Feit brand bulbs which worked just fine up until a couple weeks ago with the color changing through the speakers. The YouTube issue I've more or less given up on because I've literally spent hours and hours and hours and probably a couple full days trying to fix this issue now with no success. I've seen a few workarounds that other folks have suggested that might work, but it's too much hassle. I'm sick of having to try and reset everything and Link and relink and unlink and re-link etc etc because I've had to do that multiple times as well because somehow my Google home account keeps disconnecting from Paramount plus and Netflix and a few other apps for some odd reason which doesn't make any sense. it seems like in every new issue that comes up with google, just gets the runaround and Google doesn't know a **bleep** thing about how to fix the issue or if they do they're not telling.

This is a really interesting observation. My lights had the same problem. I also noticed around the same time that the voice of the Google assistant changed on some devices around the house but not others. I had to go into the home app and reset the voice assistant. I also tried the voice command "synchronize devices." It seems to be working now, all the voices are back to their setting, and I'm not getting ads when playing on multi-room.

Hi Dan,

There are many people in this thread who still need help, myself included. Digital Wellbeing did not resolve the issue.

Hey folks,

Thanks for providing all the information that we need. To confirm, do you have a Family Premium account with YouTube Music or just a single account? Does the same thing happen when you use the Google Assistant app on your phone?

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Family premium account. I do not use the Google Assistant app on my phone

This happened on my phone connected to my car's Bluetooth speakers which was distracting and scary when I was driving. Ironically the behavior when I don't pay you, waiting five seconds and using the skip ahead then skip back buttons on my steering wheel, is more reliable and thus vastly preferable to trusting you not to deliver distracting ads while I am trying to drive. It would be better if play were mapped to skip track but even if this became the case I doubt I would change my behavior away from something that works 100% of the time and requires no visual interaction with my phone. Shaking my phone to report a problem was somewhat helpful but for me to become a customer again google assistant would really need to be able to fully interact with the app including hands free problem reporting. Anyway I hope the above helps, unfortunately I don't even have the phone I was originally using any more.

Single account, does not happen on my phone, only on Google Home speakers

I honestly would have thought the massive amount of logs google collect would be more than enough for a dev team to figure this out.

Absolutely! Instead we just get glossy up beat responses while asking us the same questions over and over then telling us to fix the problem ourselves… Come on Google sort this out already!

Still happening as of Jan 2023. Ads with music despite my YouTube premium account.

When I tried giving this command, my Google home mini says -"sorry, I didn't understand"

That's your solution? Seriously? "Hey, you guys pay for an ad free service, but you can still suck it, we're not fixing it?" That's **bleep**,. Truly and utter **bleep** of a response

My apologies for the delays. We appreciate everyone for sending feedback using the keywords  provided above. If you haven't sent any feedback yet, please do so as this will help the team investigate the issue. Also, please try the steps below and let us know how it goes.

  1. Open the Google Home app
  2. Tap on settings
  3. Go to music
  4. Set default music service to "no default provider"
  5. Play music, "Hey Google, play music on YouTube music"
  6. Monitor if it will play ads. If none, then set back the music service to YouTube music then check if you still have the same issue.

I think I got the problem. If I ask Nest to play Youtube, I got ads, but if I ask Nest to play "Youtube Music" , I got no ads. It seems Nest is compatible with Youtube Music only, what is weird. I am located in Brazil and my premium is Family Premium

This issue exists since 2021 and is now almost 2 years old. I really can't believe that "not enough" crash logs were collected to isolate the problem.

Also, my GH is in portuguese, and since the feedback keyword is english, it wouldn't understand it either way.

I hope that it gets ACTUALLY fixed.
