Bluetooth Connection Error with Google Nest Mini

Richardchycki
Community Member

hey there,

Trying to pair bluetooth speaker with a Google Home Mini. On pairing, the Mini finds the speaker fine but times out after a while, displaying this error:  "Could not pair with this speaker"

Full reset has no effect. Bluetooth device pairs with all other Android and IOS devices without difficulty.

thnx in advance.

Google has been aware of this issue for several years now and love to lock the threads that complain about their bad bluetooth implementation. Nothing bluetooth will remain synced with the Google Nest Mini. Doesn't matter what generation the model is, they did not improve the bluetooth functionality and in my opinion have either intentionally crippled it or can't bring themselves to admit that the hardware is bad and will never improve. They have been promising fixes for years, offering the same dumb list of suggestions over and over, promising the team is "aware and working on it", all the while knowing that they are indeed not going to fix it, nor will acknowledge their failure to do so.

Hi, @Richardchycki,

Thank you for posting in the community. I apologize for the trouble you're having with your Bluetooth speaker and Google Home Mini. I'm happy to help!

To effectively troubleshoot, please answer the following questions:

  • When did this issue start?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
  • Should audio play from the Google Nest Mini or the Bluetooth speaker?
  • Are there other nearby Bluetooth devices turned on?
  • Are there any nearby high-voltage appliances or devices that use 2.4 GHz (e.g., TVs, radios, microwaves)?
  • Does the device appear in the list of available Bluetooth devices?
  • Is the Google Home app and device firmware version updated?

This information will help to determine the best course of action and resolve the issue.

Keep me posted,

Best regards,

Ana

Again with this list of wild goose chase suggestions you send your users on, knowing full well and good that this is an ongoing issue that has been WELL DOCUMENTED over the past 3 YEARS. Stop sending users down these useless paths of frustration! Just be honest and say that this is a known issue and it has not and likely will never be resolved. I am so sick of y'all doing this to decent people.

@Jackbenimble - We have an open thread where we I am trying to assist you. I understand you're frustrated but I also ask that you please refrain from seeking other posts and disrupting conversations where other community members are looking for help.

I gave up looking for a solution to this problem long ago, as has your team apparently given the 3 years this ongoing known problem with bluetooth connectivity has continued. We tried all the steps, tried all the workarounds, until your other team mates finally confessed that this is a known issue and they are working on it, blah blah blah...still no solution! Your company's dishonesty towards your customers is why I am here. I do not seek to be coddled by people willing to lie to cover their hardware failures, as well as their failure to right this problem with a proper recall, because you are all trained to dangle a carrot of hope to people for 3 years without ever having to follow through, nor providing any updates on this issue after promising that you would. You then close the only active forums where any such communication is taking place. You have communicated ZERO about this issue on your support page and I'm sure you will lock this thread as soon as you get antsy, knowing that this issue will never EVER be solved.

The Bluetooth speaker is visible to the Google Nest Mini. The link process times out repeatedly. All other devices like phones and TVs connect seamlessly to the speaker. Only the Nest Mini seems to have difficulty. Current firmware is 429109.

Hi, @Richardchycki,

Thank you for your reply and the information you provided. I'm happy to assist you further.

Before troubleshooting, please ensure the following:

  • Verify that the Bluetooth speaker is turned on and has sufficient power or battery level.
  • Confirm that the Bluetooth speaker and the Google Nest Mini volume are not muted.
  • Check if the Bluetooth speaker uses a supported Bluetooth standard.
  • Identify and eliminate potential interference sources like other Bluetooth devices, high-voltage appliances, or devices connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. If possible, keep both devices in the same room.
  • Verify that the Google Nest Mini is properly set up and can play audio from media sources even when not connected to the Bluetooth device.
  • Confirm that the Bluetooth speaker is in pairing mode. This is typically achieved by holding down the pairing button or enabling a specific setting. Also, activate Bluetooth on your Google Nest Mini using the command 'Hey Google, turn on Bluetooth.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

  • Remove or forget the Bluetooth device from the paired list of all previously paired devices.
  • Unpair the Bluetooth device from its current pair, then pair it with the Google Nest Mini. To pair:
    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap Devices
    • Select the Google Nest Mini to pair with your Bluetooth speaker.
    • At the top-right, tap Settings, then Audio, then Default Music Speaker, and then Pair Bluetooth Speaker.
    • Tap the Bluetooth device you would like to pair, then select Done.

If these steps don't work, please follow these steps:

  • Reboot both devices, then try to pair again.
  • If it's still not pairing, uninstall the Google Home app and reinstall it.
  • Perform a Factory Data Reset (FDR) on the Google Nest Mini and try to pair again.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana
