Broadcasts have no audio at all, only text of the message on the screens.

We have six Google Home Hub displays, versions 1 and 2. We were having more and more trouble with broadcasts not going through, our voices not being heard or registering so we'd have to repeat the message, etc.

All of these problems were infuriating, so I did a factory reset on all of them. Now NONE of them broadcast the audio at all, pretty much ever!! It makes the beeping noise that proceeds the audio of a broadcast coming through, but than no other audio at all! They all now only show the text of the broadcast on the screen and that's it.

We went from that happening on some of the displays sometimes or often, to them all now doing it practically every time.

I'm at a loss for a solution. Factory resets only made things worse.

Edit: We did just setup a new Asus GT-AXE16000 router on the same day as the factory resets. But the problems were already very bad before that on the previous router, the Asus GT-AX11000. They all used to work much better and much more constantly in that same setup. But they've just kept getting worse and worse over the last year or so.

I've thought this for a while but I'm to deep i have hubs not speakers every room.

So cost a bomb

Really wish I had not stayed loyal to google

Same issue. Have a nest hub and about 6 speakers. Broadcasts just make the dual beep tone and no broadcast. The hub screen will show the message but not talk. Power cycles them all. No luck. Ridiculous.  Seems this has been ongoing for many and no fix.

Same issue here. Have not had any hardware changes on my home network and this just started being an issue about a month ago. Would be great to get some troubleshooting info from Google on this.

Would be nice a comment from Google surely they look there own forums

All my devices, including a brand new 1, have stopped broadcasting and automations with announcements have atoppes also. We get the tone but no words ever follow. We have 7 devices plus phones, none work. Broadcasting is the main reason we have them. So they are useless to us without that working.

It's tedious, but if have the automation broadcast the message to each device individually they'll play almost in sync.

Changing my automations to only boradcast to a single device (instead of all devices in the house) seems to help. Perhaps this will help some of you struggling with this issue.

To broadcast to multiple devices, I have to repeat the broadcast to each individual device.

That wont help me with normal broadcasts. Broadcasting and telling my tv/sound system to play music from another room is the only reason we have any of our google speakers. I also currently have one automation that only goes to one device for thw announcement it does not work either. I like 10 automations that broadcast currently to 5 devices thats a crap ton to have to redo because google failed.

I am considereing more and more to look into trashing all my google devices, we have about 20 google brand and a dozen or so google compatible items through out or house.

The issue appears to be that Google cannot automate a broadcast to multiple devices anymore. Not sure why. Would be great if someone figures this out. I have tested 1 device works fine, regardless of the device, but adding in any other device causes only the chime to sound, but no announcement.

Resetting every device, uninstalling, reinstalling, turnning everything on and off again is NOT a solution, it's an excuse to send people away hoping they won't come back. Google, you need to fix the problem and stop breaking stuff that worked fine. Google Home Speaker devices worked FAR better a year or two ago than they do now for everything.

We've discovered that this issue may be due to the length of the broadcast. Shortening the message seems to make it work.

Yea, sometimes this seems to work. I can say "hey google broadcast dinners done", then it will play some corny automated message from the assistant that is not in my voice. It will ring a bell and say come and eat or something like that. I used to broadcast overly annoying messages to my son because he would say he didn't hear it and it would work fine. I would say something like "dinner is done, come downstairs because its time to eat and the food is ready, come down your mom worked hard on this food" hahha. Now I don't even trust it to work. I'm a lifetime google guy since the original google home started. But if I go to buy something new, I am 98% sure its going to be another brand. Not google sadly. They screw this stuff up way too much.

Same. It used to work like an intercom system. Now it fails constantly.

I have been trying that all week but with limited success. 1, 2, and 3 word announcements or broadcasts are failing most times as well. Last night to tell my daughter to go check the laundry took 8 attempts if rewording it! That is not how it used to work or should work. What is the point of a broadcast feature if only 1 or 2 words work? And they only work a part of the time still!

Same for me.  I have a three word broadcast that I use consistently and that fails.

Same problem. Even considering Alexa as Google's products have gone way down hill

Millions of Nest users worldwide now suffer this or similar issues.

Google either don't know how to fix it or don't care as energy is being diverted into new projects such as AI etc.

Given what is going on in the world it is highly likely that Google has been hacked by a foreign actor and this could be another reason why broadcasts and announcements no longer work.

I shall await a resolution to the issue but I'm not holding my breath.

This is still an issue 4 months later. How has this not been fixed yet?!

Does this have anything to do with the push towards Gemini, and the fact that broadcasting isn't supported there?

Freudh

Same. No changes in devices, audio just stopped working. Very frustrating. I've got young kids that can't read the text, need the audio.

Could this be the reason?

We are all victim to Google switching to Gemini over assistant?

I don't know about you guys but Gemini still feels like it's beta. It can't do simple things assistant could when I've tried.

Anyway, I thought this article was interesting and perhaps the reason we are seeing these issues...

Spoke with google support and they tell me there is a bug being worked on. If you are having a problem, send feedback in the google home app.

Open Google home app - Favorites - tap your profile - feedback - choose your device - and put your issue description on the box then send.

Just sent info via feedback in the Google home app. Thanks for the advice 👍

Google - fix your **bleep**. I’m about to landfill these garbage devices. I just purchased 4 new devices and they’re absolutely unreliable. **bleep**ing joke.

Same issue. Google, any reply? It sounds like you have a lot of dedicated users with the same issue and no solution being offered. Even a statement that this is part of the Gemini transition would be helpful. Silence is not.

I discovered that if I say three words or less, it’ll broadcast. I guess I need to broadcast like a caveman.

Used the caveman approach and it worked! Not a solution the whole family will use but OK for now I guess.

Well hush ma mouth! Somebody in the Google bunker must have twitched some wires back together because, for the last 24 hours at least, things seem to have started working again.

Reminders are announced at the correct time, broadcast announcements are possible again and some functionality appears to have been restored.

Given how flaky Google products have become I'm not yet convinced that this little hiatus will last, it may just be the 'brightening' before the whole system coughs, farts and rolls over and dies once and for all.

However I will continue to monitor it over the weekend with hope and anticipation in my heart. 🤞

Same for me.

I have at least 10 devices and they used to work well.

I've ditched Google's cameras and doorbells as things went downhill, and now am looking at adding voice assistant hardware to my Home Assistant setup. At least I'll be able to broadcast.

Seems like broadcasting has started working again over the past week or so. It wasn't anything I did, just started working properly again.

I have also been experiencing the same problem for about 4 weeks now. I have reverted to using alarms on my cell phone, but really would prefer the announcements on our Google display devices throughout the home, so that anyone can respond when needed (different Family Bell announcements are intended for different folks within the home).
