I think at this point we should report it on the Google Nest's Help Centre page.

Definatly….I’ll do that now…

This is good, thank you. There is strength in numbers.

If you have Twitter, maybe tweet the [@]madebygoogle account.

I have spent this morning sending messages and videos  of my device not working to [@]madebygoogle and have basically been told that there is nothing that they can do!                                                                            "We appreciate you doing the steps. Since we've already exhausted all the possible troubleshooting steps and it's only happening when streaming BBC Radio stations, we'd suggest reaching out to our friends at BBC Radio for more help."

Hmm, I have had a conversation with the BBC that concluded that it was a Google issue and to contact them

So, I thought I had cracked the problem yesterday when I installed i-Player onto my phone. Unfortunately not! I tried my hub today and once again the BBC is silent!

I have spent the morning tweeting [@]madebygoogle and have now been told there is nothing else they can do, we have exhausted all trouble shooting options. I am now waiting for BBC support to get back to me. I will keep you all informed when and if they do.

I have been in contact with Alwin from Google support this morning and below are the replies I have had during the chat:

  • We actually are aware of this and currently working on a fix.
  • Once the fix is done, it will be rolled out through an update.
  • Some devices are actually fixed by a reset, but the devices that are still not fixed will be fixed through an update.
  • No worries, as long as your device is connected to your Wifi, it will automatically receive the fix once it is rolled out through an update.

It seems that you have had a more positive chat than I have had this morning. Let's hope the fix isn't too far off! I think I might have upset the person I was chatting to when I said that I was considering going back to an old fashioned radio!

Thanks. looks like we will just have to wait for google to sort out.

Thank you for this update. It gives me hope.

My tv has Chromecast and when I instruct my speaker to play a BBC radio station on the tv it works.

I used to cast BBC2 onto my tv from time to time, but not an entire day (personal preference not to have tv on all day.)

Yep, tried, no change.

My Google Home.  There is no sound from BBC Radio programs.  Used to be fine, now suddenly not working.  Hey Google replies to my request to play 'BBC Radio 4' and says its playing it, on my mobile it is telling me that it is but no sound at all.  The microphone is on.  I have reset it twice and still coming up with the same.  Tearing my hair out. It's about 5 years old and has never been a problem before.  Help!

Hey, andysut.

We're seeing this happen with others and we have an ongoing discussion in another thread. I'm going to go ahead and merge your message in with theirs to make it easier for you to stay up to date on updates and fixes.

Thanks.

HI

my google nest keeps cutting out when playing bbc radio stations. My google mini I have doesn't do this, it works fine, it is only the nest hub that cuts out. It will play the radio then after a couple of minutes top completely. I tell to play the radio and it plays gain but then cuts out again after a couple of minutes. I have tried casting the radio from my phone to the display and the same thing happens.

any ideas?

My Best has stopped streaming any BBC radio station I've tried. Says it is streaming but then just nothing.  Other radio stations eg LBC, Heart play no problem (GlobalPlayer ?). Any news of a fix on this ?

This stopped working a couple of days ago.

ask google to “stream Bbc radio 2” and it responds “streaming 88 to 91 FM Bbc radio 2 from the bbc” and then …. Silence.

Non-bbc radio stations will stream. It will respond to other commands.

Can’t coax any bbc stations into action, e.g. radio 1, 3, 4, Scotland, etc. All say they are doing so but don’t provide any audio,

any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem. Other radio stations such as Magic FM and Classic FM are working perfectly.

Seems to be a connection issue .. can you cast using an online service such as TuneIn .. install the app on your phone and cast to your speakers, this is a temporary workaround I understand but will get you listening again

hi thanks for the tip. I did try casting from bbc sounds but got  the same problem. I'll try tunein next

I had the same problem. No BBC stations - just silence. This afternoon, I deleted the BBC app and installed the RadioUK app. Bingo! All BBC stations playing fine. Hope this helps.

I have same problem, two minis are working fine but the other one has stooped playing BBC radio stations. Have carried out factory reset, this worked for one day but has stopped again

any ideas

Yep, same problem here. If my nest mini gen1 is in a group then the whole group refuses to stream BBC radio, my nest hub gen1s work fine though

Yes! Me too, also started Friday.

As others have noted, if I factory-reset any of the Nest Mini (2G) and set it up again it will initially play BBC radio Ok - even stopping and starting again or changing radio station works. However, if the device is left not playing for a few hours, the problem re-appears and it will not stream any BBC radio channels (other radio ok). Google Home device (1G) does not exhibit the problem (yet!)

Radio Alarm.

Google Home Speaker stopped playing my Radio alarm although the white lights still lit up. I tested it on mini speakers and worked fine. I've reset my Google Home Speaker and tried again with the alarm, but still no joy.

I can play BBC radio on the speaker just not able to play the radio in alarm mode any more 😞

Looking forward to a resolution as waking up to a buzzing noise is not what I signed up to!

I'm experiencing the same issue, unfortunately.

Me too. Worked fine until about 4 days ago. I can cast from my phone, but when I say "play BBC radio 4 " it replies "ok playing BBC radio 4 on the BBC," but then silence.

I have done a factory reset and been in touch with BBC who say it is a Google issue.

my google nest/dot in my room has stopped playing my usual radio 2 station when I ask it to. The other two still play when I ask….how can I get it back pls as I listen to it to wake up. TIA

I haven't got an answer, but I have the same problem. I have several speakers, but only one is affected. It used to work, but just decided not to work for BBC radio channels only. I have tried lots of resets etc, but nothing works for voice requests. Other methods of streaming to it do work, but I want voice demands to be my way of selecting bbc radio. The device responds exactly as I would expect, the only problem being that the radio audio does not appear.

My mini speaker is now working for BBC radio.

Hi . This has happened to me too!  It used to play BBC radio 4 (and 2) when I asked and now it just says “playing BBC Radio 4 from the BBC” followed by SILENCE. It still plays Classic FM when I ask. What on earth is going on? I tried to find a reboot on the app (suggested elsewhere) but can’t. THen I unplugged and replugged after a while. Absolutely nothing happened.

Exactly the same issue, have several nest devices but now one of them refuses to play any sound despite it saying its playing. Come on Google pull your finger out.

Same problem as everyone else, BBC stopped working other stations are fine.  I guess it’s time to go back to Alexa,  Google was so much better for just a short amount of time

So my Google Nest sprang back into BBC life yesterday and happily played Radio 5 live.  Today, nothing, back to the sound of silence. If the BBC and Google speak to each other, surely this must be an easy fix?

Streams are not being offered for BBC Sounds on Google Nest Devices since Monday 11 October 2021 (possibly Sunday).

Asking the device to 'plsy BBC Radio 2' or any other BBC radio station results in it acknowledging the command, starting the BBC Sounds interface but then it sits on the display, with the play button showing.  Normally, it would just start playing.  Tapping the PLAY button doesn't do anything (other than make the line zip along, similar to as if it was connecting.)

Other radio or media interfaces are working fine 'ask tunein to play truckers FM' or 'open my spotify playlists' works fine, loading and executing and either streaming or retrieving auio.

Something must have changed on the BBC or Google side - can you please investigate and resolve.

Further checks - am in UK, using Sky Broadband.

My older Google Home Hub works fine with BBC Sounds, it's just the Google Nest Max that's not working with BBC Sounds.

I have the same problem

I'm on bt broadband

Odd my Google home hub won't pick up bbc but my mini nests do

Any ideas

Mine's decided not to play Radio 1 either, and having tried others it won't play any BBC radio stations. But seems to like playing Heart FM.  I don't particularly want to listen to Heart FM, I want to listen to BBC Radio 1!
