Casting to Hub max/Nest Audio, only one speaker plays

jkrzok

I have a Hub Max set up to use a pair of Nest Audio speakers as the default audio device. When casting music to the hub I get audio out of the left speaker and the max; nothing plays from the right speaker. When casting to the paired speakers they play as expected. However, I miss the display on the Max. Is there a fix?

Hi jkrzok,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, so let’s get this resolved. You can try to do a reboot. First, unplug your Two Nest Audio and Nest Hub Max for 30 seconds. If the result is the same you can try to remove the pair and pair it once more, then see if this will make a difference. Check the steps below.

Unpair the speakers

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Google Nest or Home speaker.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold the stereo pair's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings Settings gear and then Separate stereo pair and then Separate.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Juni

I tried all of that and now I'm wondering if this is just a limit to what I can do.

I have a hub max with a pair of Nest Audio speakers set as its default device.

When I ask google assistant to play something from Sirius XM, for example, it announces that it will play XM from the speakers, and it does. If I cast Sirius XM (from my Pixel phone) to the Hub only the Hub plays. If I cast XM to the Speaker pair they play.

Is this just a software limit? Because to my mind I'm using two different ways for the Hub to do the same thing but getting two different results. One way plays to the speakers (and I get a nice display) and one plays just to the Hub (ignoring the default audio setting) with a nice display but inferior sound.

Hi jkrzok,

Thanks for the details you provided. We’d be happy to look into this for you. Ideally you should be able to play music from your Nest Hub Max to your paired Nest Audio and both speakers should play. Are you getting the same response when you try the voice command using your Pixel phone?

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni

If I try a voice command via my phone I get something along the lines of that service isn't supported. I've tried Tidal and Qobuz with no success.

Hi jkrzok,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

Thanks for trying that. What command did you use? Could you check the my activity section on your Google Home app to see the command your Google assistant recognized? Check this link. https://goo.gle/32lfmU7.

You can try this command to play Audio on your speaker group.

Say "Okay Google" or “Hey Google" then: “Play rock on <group name>”

Check this helpful link for more details.

Keep me in the loop.

Regards,

Juni
