Getting Stuck on Your Morning or Your Evening Screens and till user Interaction

SJG1976
Community Member

Hi All,

Not sure when it started to happen however all my Nest Hub devices now seem to get stuck on the My Morning, or My evening screen.

They won't seem to go back to the Pictures of Time screens by themselves.

Not sure when this started, but seems to happen every morning and night now, and will stay on the screen until the display is touched and then return to normal operation.

Has anyone else had this or have I changed a setting somewhere?

@SJG1976

I've been noticing this in the last week or so as well. For a few days, it was happening ALL the time; now it seems to be happening only occasionally. It's as if someone at Google Nest decided that ALL of its customers needed to be forcibly reminded of Google Nest's "My Morning" options.

@MplsCustomer

Many thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thought I was going mad.

At least I know it's not only me.

My biggest issue with it is a display in the bedroom it lights up the room when it's showing its *Wares*

Hi SJG1976,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If the issue persists, kindly follow the steps below to get the firmware version of your Nest device:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Check the version on your Nest display

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Dan

Sorry for the late reply.

This is effecting a Google Hub Max

Fuchsia Version

11.20230306.3.134

software Version

52.94.19.536300690

Chromecast Version

1.69.362882

And also a Nest Home

Fuchsia Version

11.20230306.3.134

Software Version

52.94.19.536300690

Chromecast Firmware

1.69.362882

The restarts of the device hasn't helped.

I'm not sure if it happens after an event such as the doorbell ringing or a Household Broadcast.

Many thanks.

Steve

Hello SJG1976,

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps that Dan suggested? Let us know if that did the trick or not, so we can try something else.

Thanks,
Lovely

Hi Lovely,

Yes the Trouble shooting steps that @Dan_A suggested have been tried but no difference.

As @MplsCustomer has said it's like it's gettingswitched on remotely, or either a Keyword is setting it off.

I forced it back to the clock the other Night, and when I woke up in the MNIght the room was Lit up with the Morning Screen.

I don't want to be waking up too that especially when it's still dark outside!

Kind regards,

Steve

@SJG1976

When this happens to our Nest Hubs, they shortly switch back to the clock or Photo Frame, and we can swipe to get the clock back. It's as if the Nest Hubs keep advertising everything they can do. But what's happening to you is worse.

@MplsCustomer

Yes mine seems to do it in the middle of the night.  So instead of the Darken Clock you get the Your Evening or Your Morning Screen with it's bright white background.

That's the most annoying part, loosing the Photo Display during the day is annoying but not as annoying as a Bright White background in the middle of the Night.

@SJG1976 I am having the same issue.  I've been looking at one in front of me for the past 3 hours and it's just sitting on "Your morning".  Last night the one on my bedside table was bright white and woke me up at 2am.  I kept swiping it to the l clock, but then it would come back to a bright white background with your morning on it.  My kitchen one does this as well.   There must have been some sort of updated in the last few months to trigger them all to do it.

@alien8er @MplsCustomer

Not sure if it's related by the Nest Mini's

Also seem to now be Pulsing with the 3 Lights on the Front when this happens.

If you've ever seen AI when they go from Blue to Red.

It gets me thinking of that...  It's like they are listening to me.

Anyway...  Its still the bedroom one and the Bright White display in the middle of the Night that's getting me down.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the details you all shared. Have you tried the factory reset? This erases all your personalized settings and restores the factory default settings. It won’t automatically reconnect to WI-Fi, and you’ll need to set it up again. Check out this link for more information about it.

Best,

Juni

I have just noticed the same behavior just started on all my google displays (2x Nest Hub Max and a JBL Display).  Super frustrating that something has changed and it no longer goes back to my photos unless I manually do it.

I'm having this issue as well, what more can we try to help fix the problem?

Just to update.

I've tried the Factory reset on all 3 Devices.

So far I've not had the screens Stay on the White Screen.

Each one seemed too do an Update after Factory resetting as well, so it looks like it has resolved the issue for me so far.

Hi there,

We’re glad to hear that this has been sorted out, and thanks for updating us in this thread.

For others that are experiencing the same issue, try to do another factory reset and then set up. Let us know how it goes.

Warmly,
Alex

Sorry...

Just as a follow up.

The issue is back again.

It seems to be after a Broadcast event.

From the Kitchen Display I have, an event of "Ring the Dinner Bell" happened.

The 2 other displays in the Living Room and Master Bedroom then seem to have got stuck on the Your Evening screen.

Not sure this is the same as before.

However the Kitchen Display was normal at 01:30

The other 2 displays were on the Bright White Background until they were swopped off.

So I think the screen lock issue seems to be happening after a Home Broadcast Event such as in this example " Ring the Dinner Bell"

Either way it doesn't work as it used too.

Just as another follow up..

It's now 02:02

After swiping on the screen just after 01:30 and setting the screen to dark.

Moving Infront of the screen it's now gone Bright White again and is stuck on Your Evening.

So it's not to do with the Broadcast Routine, but now looks like Movement has triggered the screen.

Either way this is not desirable on a screen at 02:00 in the Mor ikg going Bright White and flooding the room with light.

Hello SJG1976,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Try to turn off the Ultrasound Sensing feature and observe if it makes a difference.

To turn Ultrasound Sensing on or off, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Favourites or Devices .
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings and then Recognition and sharing.
  5. Turn Ultrasound Sensing off.

Juni

Hi Juni,

That hasn't made any difference either.
It hasn't been as bad as it was before the factory reset but something definitely seems to have changed.

As it still intermittently will come on in the middle of the night.

Kind regards,

Steve Graham

I've had this problem for months with my Kitchen Hub Max when it gets stuck on the my morning/evening screen at random times. Including middle of the night for no reason....  anyways I've disabled ultrasonic and face detection for now and problem appears to be resolved.  Not an ideal fix, but will probably leave it this way permanently anyways since I don't use that useless my morning/evening screen.

FEATURE REQUEST: Allow user to disable my morning/evening screen completely if they don't want it..
