Google Home Mini keeps saying the Mic is off. I know it is, I turned it off on purpose.

I purposefully turned off the mic on one of my 4 Google Home devices because it kept activating when attempting to activate other devices in my home. The problem is that now it keeps nagging me about the microphone being off every few days, and I want it to stop.

Is there a way to disable this reminder? I don't need to be reminded the mic is off. I know it is. I would turn it back on if I wanted to use it.

Hi rain-in-503,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Sorry to hear about this experience. Have you already tried to perform a complete reset to your Google Nest Mini? If not, let's try that and see if this will make any changes on its behavior.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Princess

Hello there,

It's us again. How's it going with your Google Home Mini? Did resetting your device help?

No, resetting the device did not resolve the issue. It seems this is a feature that simply cannot be disabled.

Hey there,

To make sure, are you also getting the same message even if the mic is on? If not, if the mic is off on your Home Mini and someone is talking, it will react that way since it's thinking someone is trying to talk to it. We apologize for the inconvenience and we'll take it as feedback.

Best,

Alex

No, when the mic is on the message does not play.

When the mic is off, the message will play seemingly at random times each day, regardless of whether another device is being hailed at that time, sometimes during dead silence. This seems like the kind of thing that should be adjustable with a simple setting in the Home app - perhaps something along the lines of "Don't remind me that the microphone is disabled".

Hi rain-in-503,

While that particular setting is not available on the Google Home app, you can try adjusting the “Hey Google” sensitivity" of your device. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the device card of the preferred speaker or display.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings >  Audio > “Hey Google” sensitivity.
  4. Use the slider to raise or lower the device's sensitivity to make it more or less responsive to "Hey Google".

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Alex
