Google Home Mini rendered unusable

A few months ago, both Minis in my home suddenly required a request to be repeated four to five times in order to respond, with 20-25 seconds in between requests as that's how long any response at all would take - "sorry, there was a glitch, please try again in a few seconds" or "Sorry, something went wrong try again in a few seconds".   Made them both so frustrating to use for many things - it was like speaking to someone who has a hearing problem but refuses to use their hearing aids. At least I still had some daily alarms set and could use them as bluetooth speakers... However, today is a new story. I could not silence my alarm, no matter how many times I demanded it to "STOP"

Next I discovered that my mini is not set up, and that I should download the Google Home app on my phone or tablet. (which was already all set up and from which everything looked fine...)

Several modem reboots, factory resets for the Mini, and Google Home app uninstalls and reinstalls, I have it all set up again. But, a request again informed me that "Your Google Home isn't set up yet."

I am having these same problems. I noticed the same slow response eventually getting "not set up" when accessing the mini. I noticed that in the google app, The app "sees" my speakers and will adjust their volume so it is not a setup issue. I can also using a third party utility see that the speakers have IP addresses on my network.

Also having the same problem. Still waiting on a response from Google

All three of my Google home minis don't work now.  All voice commands are borked and results in "Your Google home isn't setup yet". This has ruined our nighly routine with our children and made bed time more difficult.

I've rebooted, factory reset, and deleted the home profile and made a new one, multiple times now. How can this be fixed or devices refunded? I did not pay money for a paper weight. Thanks in advance.

Mine are doing the exact same thing

I'm in Australia.

Likely related to Firmware 3.73.451414

Same as mine

My firmware is 3.73.415414

It's doing exactly the same thing for me.

Almost two weeks ago my Google mini speakers (all 3) only respond with "your Google home isn't set up yet, to get started download the app from a phone or tablet"

All functions work from the app. I have tried resetting, reinstalling, factory resets. I have gone as far as creating a new home and adding each speaker as if they were new.... Same end result. I can cast music to the speakers. They show as set up and working from the app. The app works perfect as far as controlling my lighting, TV etc. All speakers were working fine up until almost 2 weeks ago. After looking online for answers it seems I am not the only one having this issue. I have tried every suggested "fix" . Is this Google's way of forcing a upgrade? Please Help!

I am having the exact same issue, it looks like many other people are too.

Odd, because both speakers have been set up for years... I looked in the app - yup, both speakers are there. But, I thought I'd just humor Google and go through the entire process. Again. And again. All attempts failed.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I rebooted my modem. I did factory resets on the minis. I tried to set them up on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I did all of these things multiple times to no avail.

Still, the only response I can get out of either of my speakers is "Your Google Home isn't set up yet. To get started, download the Google Home app on your phone or tablet."

I am not the only one with this issue. Google, what have you done? Fix it please!!

I've been having the exact same issue for the past several days. Nothing seems to fix it. I've had my home mini for several years now with no issues, and all my other devices are fine.

I am having the exact same issue. Before the total failure I'd notice that request responses had gotten really slow or would error out. My two minis are accessible from the phone app to raise and lower their volume so "not set up" seems to be a false message.

I discovered that my two Google Mini speakers are working again. I did nothing to correct the problems they were reporting(not set up) nor did I make any changes to my network. I just happened to try a call to them and found they were now functional!?

Both speakers are now very quick to answer to "Hey Google" and there are now very quick answer  responses. The speakers also seem to be "hearing" better. All this with no intervention by me.

Do you know what firmware you are running on your devices? I wonder if a fix was pushed out.

Best Regards,
Mario.

There are many posts related to the same problem. Please make sure that you update all of them with your solution.

How much longer until a fix? Two weeks of this is unacceptable.

Nest and Mini speakers both bricked at the same time this week after a couple of years working fine.  Rebooted, reset, changed location, rebooted router, reinstalled on Home app. Both are connected to the router and work as bog-standard bluetooth speakers from my phone.  They no longer respond to voice control.  I suspect something has been buggered up in auto-update.

No response from Google.  Im still without sound. Your losing customers . Help us!

Where are the updates? This issue hasn't been resolved a week later? Do better google

Has this issue been addressed yet?  People are advising i change to Apple .. none of my google home accessories are working..

My speakers just started working again. No idea exactly when something changed, I just randomly tried again (after getting an Alexa device) and both worked perfectly, as if I'd never had a problem. Initially, I tried all things, factory resets, uninstalling/reinstalling etc, but nothing helped. Then all of a sudden it was as if I'd never had any problem at all. Seems like Google is rolling some kind of fix out and is just  not telling anyone  about it, what caused it, what they did/are doing to rectify it.

I got one of mine to work that was a display. I used it to tell the other devices to do or play things. Still can't tell the minis anything or I get the same error above.

For the device to quit working is one thing.  No way to contact "Google Support" is even more frustrating.  They have to know there is a problem with so many customers having the same issue.  I'm at the point of throwing the thing in the trash and getting an Alexa or something.

I am also having the same issue for a couple of weeks. One mini started working after many resets. The mini that was the first to stop is still not working. HELP! I am so frustrated.

I went yesterday and purchased an Echo Dot.  Before opening the Alexa box I tried to get Google Mini to work.  Cut the power to home router and Google mini.  Removed mini from device list in Google Home App.  Reversed steps and when adding the mini back to device list in app, it starting working.  Beats Me.

Thanks so much Railroader. I ended up having to factory reset (again) instead of just unplugging it but other then that, I followed the steps you suggested and it is now working! Much appreciated.

I have Google speakers mini in my home, all of which are connected to my Google home network in different rooms, and have been for years. Suddenly a few months ago one of the speakers started randomly getting removed from my google home app and network on its own, and when i try to interact with it it prompts me to set It up in the Google home app.

I tried resetting the speaker  factory resetting it, and even removed completely and set it up as new device in a completely new room, each of which I've done multiple times and after updating the Google home app multiple times with the same thing happening over and over again, usually within 24 hours of setting it up again. The only exception is when I set it up in a new room when it lasted about 2 months before happening again.

This has been happening to me too!

I have a Nest Mini that keeps getting removed from ny home and only appearing in my local network, with the notifications saying my spouse removed it. However, my spouse and I both have gotten brand new phones in the past two days and the issues still keep happening, so it isn't on our end. I've also factory reset the Nest Mini three times and this issue still happens.

I've read at least three threads with people having this issue, and the only answers given are "log in and out," "reset the Mini," and "restart your router."

I hope someone resolves this issue because it's very very annoying. ☹️

This issue was doing my head in for weeks, found on another forum to turn off IPv6 on the router.

I have the same issue as many of you guys above in the thread. The weird thing is, I have 6 or 7 devices around the house and only two are causing me the issue. So rebooting the wifi, resetting up etc is just a waste of time, it is specific to these two devices, one google home and one mini

Have you tried disabling ipv6 on your router?
