Over the last 2 weeks my Google Home is very slow to respond. It sits and the lights spin after a command and many times it does not execute the command. Also, when I tell it to play a radio station it plays it on a nest speaker in another room. I have rebooted it by unplugging several times plus 2 factory resets and no change.

The exact same issue here. All of our Google homes including a mini , the regular Google home, and Google home with display are all very laggy. The started in the last couple months. Sometimes they don't ever respond and sometimes it takes forever to respond or plays in response in the wrong room. I've tried everything suggested in this thread and the issues still persist on all my devices.

You just described exactly what is happening to me!

The exact same issue here. I’m asking why google doesn’t fix this problem. I have google nest 7” and nest 10” laggy as hell… Last year it was working ok now this is a nightmare nothing works properly. And yaaa i do everything (reboot, setup, i have perfect connection)..

Same problem here. 6 devices in the house.

Very slow here as well. It worked well, but then in the last weeks, it is very slow to respond. Not consistently slow, it sometimes seems like it is faster if I voice a command then then another soon after.
I tried resetting the device, changing wifi channels, but nothing helps.
As this is my first voice-controlled device, seems like I will have to try Alexa as well as I don't want to spend so much money in nests etc. in all the rooms and then it won't work.
Device information:
System firmware: 276689
Cast firmware: 1.56.276689
Country code: NL
Google nest 2nd generation

Same problem here, all was going good and sudenly the assistant makes mistakes all the time. blinds not closing, lights not working, sloooooow responds. This is realy not good for the WAF . My partner realy loved the system. Now she is talking about taking it all away.

@Cornell99 , It attempted to start working here too. It only lasted two days, and even then it was intermittent. What boggles my mind is that there seems to be ZERO input from Google on this. Its almost like they are telling us to go fly a kite... Pathetic

FYI to everyone with this issue. I have been in contact with Google tech support via Google Nest on messenger and they are now aware and said they will be working on the problem.

@Axon54 , Best news if the Year!!! Thanks

THANK YOU!

Glad to hear this too, my mini has been slower then normal when processing commands for the last few weeks.

Same here. It's been really slow to respond for a few weeks. Takes a minute or two to reply after giving it a command, and half the time it bugs out.

Same issue

Same issue, is this the topic to follow if there's going to be a solution?

Yesterday Axon54 posted the following. "FYI to everyone with this issue. I have been in contact with Google tech support via Google Nest on messenger and they are now aware and said they will be working on the problem." Despite the fact that more and more people report being impacted by this each day I have seen nothing posted from google. I will be watching for any updates from Axon54 or others in this thread.

I'm unfortunately in the same boat, with 7 Google devices all with random response times between a few seconds and a couple of minutes. Have just invested in my first Amazon echo and response is instant. I don't really want to completely change ecosystems.

Axon54 commented above that he has been in touch with Google and they will work on it. I sure wish Google would have a representative comment and weigh in on these issues. Maybe provide status reports periodically. It would sure raise my confidence level that something is being done. Very very frustrating. Like you I've invested a lot in the Google infrastructure. Crossing fingers and hoping to hear something positive soon.

After 3 days of going back and forth and Google Help having me try everything except standing upside down and waving my left foot. They have told me they have exhausted all troubleshooting avenues and since my warranty has expired I’m out of luck. One of the things they had me try was to erase current voice recognition and reintroduce voice recognition. That resulted now in not being unable to get Google Home to respond to the stop command. They made the issue worse and then just walked away. When I asked to speak a supervisor they said they don’t reply to Google Nest Help issues. I also told them how many of you have the same problem. That generated zero response. My feeling is this is a known issue as I have seen complaints of this issue dating back to 2017. They are ignoring it and ignoring us. They said I might be able to speak to a supervisor through live chat. Perhaps we need to all do just that!

I have the same issue on all but 1 device which works fine.
01-01-2022 02:42 PM
I also found out that my google nest hub is making DNS requests to 8.8.8.8. I have PiHole with Unbound set up for all my DNS requests. So this traffic is timed-out. Can this also have to do with the slow responds time? I hope the devices aren't hardcoded to only use 8.8.8.8 for DNS resolving.

Good catch @Dnomge . How do I know, which DNS Home Display is using?
After 2 days if working normally, the Display start d acting up again. "Something went wrong" is the answer I get now...

I too have this same issue. Very very frustrating.
I am debating if the issue goes away if ALL speakers are located within a few feet of the primary Nest Wifi Router. I suspect the issue resides within the Mesh.
01-02-2022 06:26 AM
I don't have a Google routers. All of my Access Points are hard wired, no mesh network at all.
I do however have over 100 devices in the network (mostly Tasmota flashed SonOff).

I assume you're using Home Assistant as well? Does the Google home app take sometimes several seconds just to show the status of devices when loading?
01-02-2022 08:27 AM
Yes, I do use Home Assistant. It seems that only my Home Display is acting up on an almost consistent basis. The other Home Minis work just fine.
02-06-2022 06:46 PM
My google home app also takes a few minutes to show status. I thought it was my internet and went as far as resetting my network settings on my phone. Did nothing for google app.
01-02-2022 07:25 AM
Good find with Pi-Hole. I'll have to dig around with that on my side as well.
I thought the issues I was having were due to recently migrating from smartthings to home assistant, and then I found this thread.
01-02-2022 01:13 PM
I allowed my google nest hubs, home and mini's to use 8.8.8.8 and it is much responsive then before.
Can anyone tell me why, these devices need to use 8.8.8.8 besides DNS resolving?
Why can't they use the DNS server supplied by my DHCP server?
01-02-2022 01:59 PM
Can someone please let me know how to SET the DNS address to 8.8.8.8 or whatever? Thanks
02-06-2022 06:47 PM
Yes me too!
01-02-2022 04:38 PM
I can't imagine that this is a DNS issue that everyone is having. Unless we're all either using Pi-Hole or their ISP's are forcing the connection to use their DNS Servers instead.
01-05-2022 07:50 PM
Same problems and getting worse every day.
Obviously Google implemented somthing that has horribly gone bad. Since they don't back out the changes i assume it's a cost saving measure (move a million or so cpu's to another task). They probably are not making enough ROI on the assistant.
01-06-2022 12:11 PM
Ok, so I had a personal phone call with Sundar Puchai (CEO of Google) He said you all should know by now. After owning a Google device for 1 year, it's time to replace it with a newer model. THE END.
01-06-2022 03:40 PM
You know somehow I would believe this is true after seeing the lack of response from Google over this issue and being told my one year warranty was up so you’re out of luck. This is so obviously a software issue because of the number of people experiencing the same issues. They just don’t want to fix it. So…. See ya!
02-06-2022 06:48 PM
Hahahaha! 💀
01-06-2022 12:28 PM
My one google hub is only 2 months old and it is doing it along with the others (I have them in two different homes) so no, I'm not accepting that, nor should we. Disposable after a year. Last one I buy from them if that's their response.

I continue to work on troubleshooting. It seems to me that most of my home automation works fine including garage door, heating and cooling, televisions, etc. In my case it seems like most of the delay and non-responsiveness is when I try to control lights that use socket switches. These socket switches are various brands but they are all connected to the Tuya app. If I try to control the same sockets directly from the Tuya app they seem to be pretty responsive. It's when I try to use Google Assistant voice control connected to the Tuya app that I experienced these delays. I am interested to see if anybody else can confirm these same behaviors and the same suspect application (Tuya) or Google integration with Tuya
