Up until the last couple of days I could instruct my mini nest to “sleep in 20 minutes” and 20 minutes later is would stop. But now it although it acknowledges the command, it keeps on playing after the time period. I have tried saying “stop in 20 minutes” as well as specifying an actual time, but all to no avail. I have two speakers, and they both are doing the same.
Does anyone know what has changed?

Here’s what support is saying
We have been made aware of reported issues with the Sleep Timer. We’re looking into possible solutions. For the meantime, we would like you to send a feedback about this issue with the steps provided below.
1. Turn on device usage data and crash reports:
2. Reproduce the issue (Try setting a sleep timer). After the issue occurred, send feedback from the speaker device via voice command (OK Google, send feedback) then say the keywords "GHT3 sleep timer not working".

Hi folks,
I hope everyone is doing well. We're happy to confirm that we've rolled out a fix for this behavior. Are you still experiencing the Sleep Timer feature issue? We would like to know so we can follow up with the team.
Looking forward to your responses.
Best,
Juni

This doesn’t work either

Same issue for me. Non e of the timer commands work for playing music or stopping music. The command "play sleep music for 30 minute" just stopped working on all my devices.

Unfortunately a number of others have also reported this problem, see the following links as an example:-
12-13-2022 11:54 AM
That doesn't work either.
12-13-2022 12:05 PM
Unfortunately as the other threads will indicate, there is no solution to this fault.
The best you can do is to set up a routine to just say 'Stop playing' and give it a starter to execute at a certain time of day or night. Certainly not a solution but until this fault is fixed by google the best you can do.

Thanks for trying. Support is aware and looking into this issue so hopefully they can get a quick resolve.

Hey everyone,
I'll duplicate this thread to a similar trending issue on this link. Our team is already working on it and we suggest checking the main thread for future news and updates.

This exact thing has happened to me just in the past week or so. I have unplugged, reset, and nothing works. Google says to go to the google home app and make sure the sleep setting is on but I followed their instructions and I can’t find the sleep setting to make sure it’s activated
12-13-2022 09:20 AM
We have the exact same issue this past week or so - it seems to work turning on alarms in the morning, but setting sleep timer (eg. Ask it to turn of playing radio in 20 minutes) does not work - it replies that it will do it, but it just does not turn off playing.
I just tried to tell it to turn off playing at a specific time, as proposed above, but even though it responds that it will turn off playing at that time, it simply does not stop playing.
12-13-2022 09:57 AM
Agreed. I have a routine as part of "bedtime" to play white noise for 2 hours. In the past week or so, it doesn't turn off and continues to play throughout the night.
12-13-2022 11:23 AM
Glad to see there are more incidents like mine.....tried everything from app settings to power cycling, to internet router reset.....still plays all night.

I ask my Best Mini to play media and turn off speaker in 20 mins. It confirms it will play media and speaker will stop playing in 20 mins. It plays the media but the speaker continues to play nonstop. It used to stop as requested but has suddenly changed. Any advice?

This started happening to me as well yesterday. I have routines to play music or ambient sounds for a set time then stop, but after the set time it keeps on playing. Also, if I tell the device to play music for X minutes, it starts but won't stop until I tell it to. I tried rebooting the device, but it didn't help. Hope this gets resolved soon.
12-09-2022 08:32 AM
The strange thing is the speaker accepts the command by saying " speaker will stop playing in xx mins " but doesn't carry it out. I even tried setting a sleep timer but that didn't activate. So frustrating.

I can see I’m not the first to identify that the sleep command (to turn music off after a specific time) is not working. Has anyone come up with a voice command that makes it stop.
I need the music to stop after a specific time for my disabled daughter’s night time routine…..or, she wont sleep!! Please help!

As you have seen there is no fix for this until google correct this bug. There is a type of solution that although not perfect may help.
Create a Routine on the Google Home app with a single action command of 'Stop Playing'. Additionally create a starter on the routine for when you want the routine to action of a set time of day, e.g. for instance at 22:00 or of course whatever time would be more suitable. Then the music will stop when the routine activates at that set time every day. Not perfect but the best you can do until this bug is fixed.
12-19-2022 04:56 PM
Any idea why it takes so long for Google to fix things?
12-27-2022 07:20 AM
Thanks for that as it does work 👍
12-18-2022 10:11 AM
You can create a manual routine with the same actions you want in Bedtime and call it something OTHER than Bedtime. The Media for some god awful reason is set to repeat once so it will go for 2 hours. If you only want 1 hour, after you fire it, you can go into the media controller and hit that repeat icon with the 1 in it to make it last only 1 hour. Lotta work we should not have to do, but it does work. Creating a routine to play X for Y time used to work but that stopped working a few weeks ago.

I'm in the same dilemma. Google really did a piss poor job with this latest update. A lot of my commands no longer work. Casting no longer wish so I can't use apple music on a sleep timer as a substitute. Useless
12-20-2022 10:40 AM
Has anyone else noticed that starting today they have locked us out of replies? Maybe it's just me because I used the F word so much but every single post has Reply greyed out.
12-20-2022 01:46 PM
I'm not sure but over the last few months, things being getting worse with my Google home devices and I had to reach out to customer service and they were less than helpful. Don't plan on buying any more google brand products after this.
12-22-2022 08:47 AM
Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide the commands that you have tried and the exact response of the Google Nest speakers so we can take a closer look into this?
Regards,
Juni

Well, two things we usually say, that no longer work.
Hey Google, play rain sounds for 2 hours.
There's no reply but rain sounds start and then 2 hours later they stop, or used to.
Or, hey Google play rain sounds.
Then, hey Google set sleep timer for 2 hours. Reply, got it, main bedroom speaker will stop playing in 2 hours, but then it doesn't stop
12-22-2022 10:04 AM
No media will stop now whether it's the sleep sounds built into Google Home, or YouTube media or even external radio stations from another connected app. None.
12-23-2022 06:54 AM
thats right, it started happening after automatic firmware update a few weeks ago. Google developers team know the issue but nothing had been done since then. Seems Google like only charging his customers for their devices but dont want to support such problems (((
12-22-2022 10:57 AM
I was wondering about the shut down timer also. Mine stopped a few weeks ago and now the music plays all night until I wake up and turn it off. Usually set for an hour. Hopefully they can fix this soon!
12-22-2022 11:41 AM
These topics are multiple now, all of these related to sleep timer which has not been working for a few weeks now for god sake and nothing is being done
12-22-2022 12:56 PM
I will say (as I have for years) “Hey Google, stop sleep timer in 15 minutes” or “Hey Google, stop music in 15 minutes”. It will always reply that it will stop playing in 15 minutes but it doesn’t. It would play all night!!! Please sort this out!!!

I have a Bedtime routine set up to turn off my lights then play music for 30 minutes when I say, “Hey Google, good night.” My lights turn off okay and music starts playing. But music doesn’t stop after 30 minutes. It just keeps playing until I wake up and say, “Hey Google. Stop.” Here is the exact wording of command I typed into Bedtime routine: ”Play relaxation radio for 30 minutes.”
Google response is, “Good night, [my first name].”
12-27-2022 07:22 AM
You know what the issue is as it’s been posted for the last few weeks. Sleep timer no longer works. You even keep closing threads on it so new one then pop up. Rather than pretending not to know can someone at this multi billion dollar place actually fix the issue?
12-22-2022 11:53 AM
As 8081UFAN has said, Google have stopped any additions to the original post about the sleep timer not working (the 'reply' box has been greyed out). If they are getting annoyed that all of us, who pay their wages, have the cheek to complain, perhaps they should put all their efforts into fixing the problem. Its been over 2 weeks now that the sleep timer hasn't worked. Its a joke!!
12-22-2022 12:47 PM
Well they've blown it with me now. I've always used Google, but this has been the last straw. Selling the lot, 5 Alexa's ordered.
12-25-2022 12:21 AM
Alexa now installed in all rooms. Instant and correct response 100% of the time. So refreshing. Goodbye Google.

I am also having the same problem. I use the sleep timer every night so this is really an inconvenience for me. It should have been fixed by now.

I bought a Google nest mini on 11/23/2022 specifically to use at night for sleep sounds. I really like one specific podcast on Spotify and cast it from my phone to the nest mini. After doing that I ask Google Assistant to set a sleep timer for 8 hours. I have woken up every night in the middle of the night and the speaker has stopped casting the podcast; even when I start it back, it stops again and also changes the podcast. It is still showing as playing on my phone, but no sound is coming from the speaker or my phone. Once I start it back, shortly after, the sleep podcast randomly gets changed by the speaker. I say by the speaker because my phone still shows the podcast I chose to cast prior to going to sleep. Please help me figure out why the speaker will not stay on overnight and is changing the podcast without the podcast timing out. The podcast is 8 hours in length. I am thinking the nest mini is just not able to play sleep sounds but I want to make sure before I decide to return the device. Thank you in advance.
